beaver monster?

Just curious at where the beaver monster is and whose going after him. Call me stupid but when an early beaver rifle permit sales for $18,000 and the san juan premium only went for $17,500 kinda makes you wonder what the outfitter who bought that tag is thinking or seeing. Heck, pahvant rifle tags are going for cheaper than that. Call me stupid but Im betting someone thinks the beaver is gonna kick out a monster.

I saw pictures of a 380+ bull in velvet living on the Beaver. However, my guide thought that bull had crossed over to a different area and got killed later in the year. Who knows.....just bought a Pahvant tag. Funny thing is that I was thinking Pahvant or Beaver. Time will tell if I made the right decision.

Stinky...any suggestions on guides in unit 12 New Mex?

Wont tell you where he hangs but my buddy got 2 shots at him 2 yrs ago on the muzzleloader. Might be on the down side this year though. I hear he was an 8x8 last year.

Not only that but the archery tag went for 15k. Archery tag gents. Now thats some cash for an archery tag. better be over 400 to pay that kind of money

I personally have heard better news off the beaver unit lately. Maybe it has been kept on the low down, but haven't heard much of anything from the pahvant the last few years. I didn't see anything big like I used to in the past when I spent some days archery deer hunting the pahvant last year.

Any idea who that kid was that bought the tag? I'm guessing he works for a guide.
(I'm also curious who was on the phone that bought the archery tag)

ive huntd unit 12 twice with a rifle. each time i was on bulls well over 375. first hunt i shot a bull right at 375. last time i was hunting a bull well over 375 but the mix of public n private ensures the landowners are gonna be herding ur bull towards their ranches. i do know of a guide who knows where to find the big ones. if ur goin that way with a public tag i can help you. if your lookin for a private tag contact kern the guide for the montosa in 13. he can hook u up with a friend that has rie fields near fence lake and has had several bulls in the last several years over 400. ive never been to into hunting field bulls as i like the "looky what i found" type of hunts but everyone has their own style.

Stinky,

It's close to the draw deadline, so I put in through Black Mountain Outfitters/Tom McReynolds. He seems to do well in that area...I'll find out if I draw.

The 1st guy that you mentioned for 12... can he apply for a nr in the guide pool? Draw odds pretty much suck if you have to draw on you own.

Thanks for the info Stinky. I seem to be in the minority, but I think you bring a a lot to the board.

Good luck in whatever you got going this year.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-12 AT 08:31AM (MST)[p]Hey Stinky,

I know where a Bull is here in Utah that is identical to the Bull I shot last year. Same genetics! Just found his sheds, so I know he survived the late fall hunts and the winter...I will say this, he isn't on any of these so-called premimum units! But he is here in Utah

Good luck in the draws!...I'm still pulling for you on your pursuit of that 400 inch Bull!

Theox,

You can see the photos of my Bull on the 2011 photo contest page...just scroll down untill you see my name...

LAST EDITED ON Mar-27-12 AT 10:14AM (MST)[p]I've seen some monster beavers when in UT.....and there are no 400 bulls in 12...just kidding.

Hey kevin, if you have some info i need to know then by all means call me. I did however buy a navajo nation elk tag and will be hunting any 30 days anywhere on the rez. last time I shot a 355 bull and my wife passed a 390 to 400 incher so this year I aint shootin a smaller bull so the wife can pass on the larger one. Who knows. Maybe j can come through again this year and put us on some monsters. Only difference this year is that I aint gotta take one for the team. I would say maybe this is the year but I've had much better odds and did worse. All I'm gonna say is that I will definitely be in a good area again this year and see what happens.

Good Luck and Good hunting for the 400 bull Stinky! Some monsters in there! I'll be hoping for a decent mature bull again this year.I have come close on some big ones, but couldn't put it together. Hard going SOLO DIY,but lots of good times.

You had your chance at a 400+ last year and i had to let someone else kill it for ya!! BTW....that bull made book both ways ;-)

You know if you buy a Beaver tag, you'll watch your bull run across the highway through your binoculars on to the Dutton!!
