I may be getting a 021 late rifle hunt. I am curious what the hunt is like. Well alright............ I drew a guide tag. I am not the type to leave it up to him. gotta get my research started. Nothing says I can't have a buck scouted b4 the opener.

thanks

Steve

I went out on the winter range on the cali side A few times this winter and neer even seen a buck.I wouldnt wait for our heard to come to you side to make your hunt good go into the peterson range and find your buck well before the season starts and keep an eye on him he shouldnt go to far.It wouldnt take a buck but a half hour to get from summer range to winter grounds in that unit and thats if it snows.

thats one of the few areas not getting a late hunt this year. regardless, its not likely youll be hunting in much snow. ive been hunting in nevada for over ten years and on only 2 occasions were we hunting in snow.

the way I understand it my hunt starts on Dec 21, that seems late to me. If it doesn't ,I will certainly be suprised. I am curious, have you been on the late hunt? or know anyone that has? BTW, there may not be much snow but damn it gets cooold.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-20-07 AT 04:32PM (MST)[p]Talk to Aaron, feel free to send me a PM, make sure you have the ability to come back w/ or w/o the guide in case weather/migration timing is off. The hunt is a little later this year, bucks should be away from does at that point. Which Guide? Pray for snow, there usually is some, it is a late hunt, Cabelas might be open, yada yada.

Bug...send me an e-mail as to who you are hunting with. I know one outfitter who knows where a couple big ones were in '04. cuz I told him.

Steve Congrats on your tag. My dad and I had the 2 non-res tags in 03. We hunted hard for 12 days straight. I have been all over that area. I ended up shooting a 26 inch 3 pt. on the second to last day. My dad said If we are going to get to miss X-mas we better not come home empty handed. Not many deer.Acess on the Petersons is limited, we saw most sign and deer on Seven Lakes and Fort Sage. Also saw some deer on north side of Dogskin. Dont over look the flat between Seven Lakes and Fort Sage. Getting up on Dogskin is pretty steep. shoot me a P.M if you want more info.
