I am seriously considering putting in for 54 or 55 muzzleloader in Co. this year. I should have the points to draw. Just wondering if anyone could give me a comparison between the two?? Private vs. public land, terrain, quality bucks etc.

Thanks,

Both units have about the same amount of public land. As far as the terrin, 55 is a little friendlier than 54. The deer will be high, treeline and above and it will be alot of work, it all is really steep.

Smilesgv is correct on all info. he has given. If you do get snow during your season, drop down to where snow line ends...that is where they will be. it will be like a highway along that white line. Look for a saddle that connects one drainage/basin to another one. -CB-

If there is snow just plan on hunting the sage and tree lines. I have hunted there alot and dont remember much for steep terrain but I come from really steep terrain so maybe its not steep to me. 55 is the better unit. Both are great units.. We hammered 6 bucks last year between the two units. (landowner tags we had) Fun hunting them hills of Gunnison..
