howdy guys. Just was wondering if there are good areas for mule deer during muzzleloading season. My dads a sheriff in meeker and we're looking for a good area to hunt. our hunting area is 90 miles away and now that we sold out camper "stupid!" i thought it would be best to find some where closer that holds a good number of deer during the muzzleloading season. Im not looking for bucks, We're all going in for doe's this year but i may put in for a buck tag also. Just incase one pops up. They always seem to pop up all over the place when you dont have a tag for one .. Any help would be great guys.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-30-07 AT 07:10PM (MST)[p]I was just looking through my maps and unit 211 also gives me the right to hunt units, 11,13,22,131,211 and 231. I think its area 22 im looking at, everything on the east side of "highway" 139 i can hunt, and offers a lot of public land, also has small pieces of state wildlife areas. Are any of these units good for muzzleloader mulies or even elk?


Also forgot to ask if this 211 unit is hard to draw for? there will be 3 of us total going for deer and maybe elk if there are any in these units.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-30-07 AT 11:29PM (MST)[p]The area east of 139 is unit 21 until you get to the top of the divide (Cathedral Bluffs). You'll have a tougher time drawing that than you will 22. Just so you know.

What unit is that albino buck in near Meeker?

the albino buck is dead, the mount just got done about 3 weeks ago. He was found dead during Nov. of last year broken neck. I will post picks of the mount soon

Okay, So lets say we pick unit 211, which also gives us the right to hunt 11,13,22,131 and 231. Will any of the units, like 22 be good for deer during muzzleloading? I heard good stuff about white river Ntl forest and oak ridge wildlife but those units and 23 and 24. Are they harder to draw for?

Yea out in for the unit 11 tag (211) you will be able to find plenty of does (and bucks) to shoot at in the muzzleloader season. I don't know if i would go down piceance or not, to many people running around. There are alot of places to hunt deer in those units and you dad should be able to see alot of them if he is a deputy. Heck just tell him to get a place or two out of Si he knows the area as well as anyone.
