Digital Camera Suggestions

Looking for suggestions on a digital camera. I have used the Kodak Easyshare 3MP before with good luck. I need a camera I can throw in my back pack and takes a SD card. Don't want to spend a fortune and end up having it get damaged or banged up. Used the wifes $500 Cannon this year and wrapping in a towel with two Zip Locs plus the worry was too much. Normally prints 5x7 but if I get a stud or a good pic I will print a 8x10. Something that runs on AA batteries as Lithium Batteries are too expensive. I can go to $300 but would prefer to keep it under $200. Any suggestions would be appreciated. May be totally out of wack with the $200 but have to try. I searched and did not find this thread but if you know the thread let me know.

We love our Canon Powershot A630. Not too big or small, but comfortable in my big hands. 8.0 MP, good zoom, runs on AA batteries, and can get a 1GB card for it to hold around 400 pictures. price right at the upper end of your range.

Another vote for the Canon A630. Bought one to replace the older A60 we had. You can take short movies with it too.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-02-07 AT 01:46PM (MST)[p]We just bought a Canon SD700, absolutely amazing what it can and does do. Bought a 2gig "Highspeed" memory card for it, in a pinch it records great motion video. Fits easily in a shirt pocket. I looked into the "A630" mentioned in prior posts... good cameras as well but I wanted something sleek and fit in a pocket better. The SD700 isnt much bigger than my cellphone.

I'm a Canon fan for life. I had a CCD go out in a canon digital camcorder... warrenty ran out 2 years prior. I called Canon and they said sure send it in and we can look at it... 2 weeks later they sent it back fixed for free. Unbelievable service!

EDIT: One more thing, I just bought 3 new rechargable Lith batteries for the SD700 off ebay, it cost a whopping $12 shipped.

The olympus 550 is more than 200 bucks, but I think you could get what you want out of it, and plus it's got 500mm or reach and image stabilization, and would print GREAT 8x10's!

The only bad thing about Olympus is they use those stupid proprietary memory cards... xD cards which cost more.
