Anyone ever hunted this area. What should I expect. Also, when applying as a group, do you apply seperately or all at the same time on the internet.
Thanks

bucket,

Crowds,crowds and more crowds.........
High success rate but lots of smaller 2-3 yr old deer. LOTS of ELK.
When applying as a group you can do it individually (seperate apps)just use the party leaders CID number on each application.
Remember that if one person in the party makes an error it invalidates everyone elses application in the party.

Do it online.....the cdow website will even point out when you make an error in the hunt code.

Good luck in the draw!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-02-07 AT 05:20PM (MST)[p]Lots of people and young bucks, hunted it last year, 7 days hunting six spotting, only say one nice buck over 185.

I hunt the high country for elk during the first rifle and see very few deer. Probably saw 150 elk opening day last year and 0 deer. That said, in "01" a buddy and I looked around Craig one evening before 1st elk season and saw over 600 deer, all on private land. 4 bucks that were over 26", one real nice non-typical. It seemed the private was small tracts of less than 640 acres so if you got permission and the deer were blown out of the area, you'd have to start over. Just my experence. Later could be even better. I know the "Wild Bunch" offers hunting for a tresspass fee but heard they were $750.00 a few years ago. Their land looks great for 3rd/4th season if there is a 4th season there. I always see several elk hanging in their camps on my way out during the 1st elk season. 441 looks more deery to me.

Either hunt the little bit of BLM land on the west side or go to the east side of unit 14 and hunt high.
Way too many people using horses and it gets hit real hard, I hunted there in 05' and never saw anything bigger than a three pointer in 8 days of hiking unit 4. Worst hunt area I have ever been to in Colorado because of how many people were there.
We had three in our group and only tagged one deer. We were lucky.
