Utah Youth Bull Tag!

Well I was unsuccessful in everything but my general season deer tag (which I am very grateful for! Should be a great hunt!) But what i'm most excited about is that my little bro drew a Youth bull tag! Should be an awesome hunt! I can't wait to chase some stinky bulls and with some luck maybe we'll get one on the ground! He has yet to harvest a big game animal so hopefully this year is the year. Anyone else going to be chasing elk with the young guns this year?

I've got a couple places on the north slope of the Uintas I have in mind that should get us into some screaming bulls (i'd be happy to share/swap information with other youth hunters looking for a starting point) but I'd love to hear any suggestions on other areas to scout from you guys. What can be expected on this hunt? I'd love to hear some stories and see some pictures of those that have participated in the hunt.

If anyone else out there has a youth tag shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to help out with a few places to start scouting. Maybe we can make a few trips out together. Good luck out there!

No one else draw this tag? Theres gotta be some more people out there who have had the tag and can share their experience! Lets see some youth bull pics!

Off the North Slope a couple years ago. Had a couple bulls but this one walked out 50 yards could pass him. First bull for this young man.

Thanks for the post Archer. My son drew out on the youth hunt also. Should be a fun hunt. I have archery hunted a couple areas on the north slope and always got into bulls but it has been 3-4 years. Would be happy to share info. Good luck to your brother.

One of my boys had that tag last year...
I can tell ya were NOT TO GO ..
From earlier years , I ruled out the Henrys, San Rafael ,
Box elder , How those are classified as "elk units" are
beyond me .. Pine valley & Zion , unfamiliar with-Too far ..

West Desert & Oak Cr north , GOOD, the first couple years ..

Range creek is best - If you own ground or have access ..

I decided to work the Uintas hard, I have a pocket full of
moose points and thought I'd use the youth elk to look it over.

We hunted the S slope 'Soapstone area' and Kamas .. HARD! ..
THE ENTIRE hunt, hiked 25 + miles, glassed til our eyes burned!
NEVER SAW a bull,, or Even heard a bugle , in 10 days !!
REALLY SUCKed!

In hind sight , I would have hunted the North Slope ,
Flaming gorge area ..Had some leads on elk there I should have
followed up on .. But o'well..

There will be NO NEXT time for us on Utah's General any bull ..
We'll go to Wyoming from now on for 'general' elk,, WAY better!

I know there are some bulls to be had by Utah Youth hunter
though, Just get back in deep .. and Good luck.
