Poacher -- Too Dumb For His Own Good

Unfortunately, its terds like these two guys, that make me insist to my co-workers I am taking time off in the fall to go to Disneyland.

In other words, two idiot hunters can give 50,000 good hunters a bad name.

Here is your man.

JUDAS FRICKIN PRIEST!!!

I TOLD YOU ALL WE HAVE SOME REAL "TARDS" IN THIS STATE!!!

NOW DO YOU BELIEVE ME???

POACHED IT THE FIRST TIME!!!

STOLE IT BACK THE SECOND TIME!!!

WTF???

WTF???

I WONDER IF THERE WILL BE A 3RD TIME???

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING: ONLY IN TARDVILLE!!!

I saw this guy all over a website for an outfitter in Utah. Desertedge outfitters or something like that? Had killed some real pigs. Now we know how I guess.

This post is in reply to "derquhart" I really hope you are not assuming that Desert's Edge Outfitters had anything to do with the unfortunate case you are refering to.
I am co-owner of Desert's Edge Outfitters and we do not allow or condone any illegal activity on our hunts. It is true that Wade has hunted with us in the past and we have had great success, but I get the feeling you are accussing us of being a part of some illegal activty. Wade has been a great client and friend and has never in our presence done or acted in a inapropriate manner, So I ask you, if you know a bank robber does that make you one? If you know a tax evader does it make you one? Why would you assume that the only way we could harvest great animals is by illegal means?
So before you make a judgment on Desert's Edge Outfitters think about it first.
Darren

DEO-

I understand your frustration with derquhart's post. I too found Wade's pictures all over your website when I googled Wade Hanks. I, however, did not infer that you or your business did anything illegal or improper. It looks like Wade has had some tremendous success hunting with you in the past. I am sure that he is a great guy and a good friend. I do not know Wade and I am not here to judge him. However, I was shocked when I read the story in the newspaper. He made at least two really poor decisions (poaching in the first instance and stealing in the second) that may come back to haunt him. If he is convicted of a felony, he will not be allowed to own or possess a firearm for the rest of his life. This is a sad story for all hunters and outdoorsman who will be unfairly judged by many people for what Wade did. I am certain there will be consequences but that is for law to decide.

LAST EDITED ON May-02-07 AT 01:38PM (MST)[p]No, being associated with a bank robber doesn't make you one. I didn't assume that he was refering to your guide service as helping Mr. Wade poach, he was refering that the guy is unethical and probably has poached more than just a Dall sheep.
Sounds like you do need to hire a spokesperson for your service though, you make a poor impression by jumping the gun.

I had a response for Quakeycrazy but decided to let him or her spout, and try not to get caught up in the crap.
Good luck to all who drew tags in the great state of Utah.

-DEO-

I dont think he was referring to Desertedge Outfitters taking part in helping Mr. Wade Poach but my first thoughts were very similar to the above post. I also think you responded in a very poor manner. To see that you were the "co-owner" and replying as if to be pissed off instead of just clearing the air.

I am very passionate about what I do, and I am sorry if I come across as rude or otherwise, and I do appreciate the fact that you guys did not think that Desert's Edge did anything wrong.I did take it wrong and I do appologize for that.

Good luck to all this coming hunting season, keep an eye out for poachers and trail cam stealing thieves.

True knowing a bank robber, or tax evader doesn't make you one.....However, knowing a bank robber (even if he is a "good guy")who suddenly shows up with a bag of money will always make you wonder how he obtained it.

Public trust and reputation is your biggest asset in the guiding business, I'm sorry...if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, It's a duck....I'd distance my business from this mess as quickly, accurately, thoroughly, and humbly as possible.

Don't defend the un-defendable.

If I owned a bank, I wouldn't have pictures of a known bank robber all over my adds and claim them as one of my best customers.

Looks like a bad deal, Sad someone would put the rest of their hunting rights for life on the table for a Sheep head. I dont think Deserts edge is getting a very fair shake here though, this dude took the animal like 10 years ago in Alaska, now he tried to steal it back. In the meantime he hunted and harvested legally some very nice animals. The sheep thing is between him and god, it has nothing to do with an honest hard working, funer than hell, hard hunting bunch from Deserts edge outfitters. If any of you had hunted with, sat around a campfire, or just spent 5 minutes with the owners or guides from deserts edge you would know in a second they are straight up good eggs.
As far as the whole bank robber thing well, pretend you owned the bank, had a great friend that was honest and loyal to you, you turned on the news and about chit cause there he is. You know he is wrong, but that doesnt suddenly cancle out the good transactions and honest buisness youve had in the past with him.
So keep the pictures up the deer are awsome, dont hold those big boys hostage for his mistake. And leave the people out of this that have nothing to do with it. We have this nature where it seems we love to crucify people. There is no justification for what this guy did, I dont condone it or agree with it, it was and is wrong.

-DEO- Unlike some others, I'm glad you cleared the air. The first couple of posts made it sound like you were one and the same. I got the impression that he was a guide, sub-guide, wrangler, or somehow connected to you. Although hunters ask for references for outfitters, I've never heard of an outfitter asking for references on a hunter.

I'm sure if I contacted you and booked a hunt you wouldn't know if i was a schoolteacher, cop or queer. Probably wouldn't care. Now if I got in camp and did something illegal or un-ethnical, I would expect you to kick me out.

DEO.. Cleared the air you did.. Too bad for Wade cause if I were him I woulda just shot the Sheep head again when I seen it. I wouldnt of stole it back but I would of put more holes in it.

If I were him I would have just left it alone, how many more times does he need to screw up to get it through his skull to leave the D@#$ sheep head alone??!!! Maybe the DWR needs to destroy it so he can leave it be, he sounds like a little kid that can't stay out of the cookie jar.

If it makes you feel better DEO, I read it and had no impression at all that your organization had anything to do with the man, but that his accomplishments whether legal valid ones or not, will always be shaded in the shroud that is created when you do something wrong. Just ask DK and his followers about that. When I read that post, that was the message I thought he was getting across. Sort of like when a Darner post comes up. You can look at his awesome deer display, but there will always be a shroud over what he has accomplished. I don't know any of the folks here involved in this, so not really coming to anyones defense, or Judgeing anyone, just giving you an impression. Also, your defense of your organization though maybe hasty, I would have done and said the same thing probably.

DEO -

You guys have a great website. I even found that one of my buddies has hunted with you guys. Keep up the good work.

One thing is life is for dern sure - YOU CAN'T PICK YOUR CLIENTS. They pick you.

Very sad situation. Its unfortunate when people compromise their intergrity and character with selfish actions. DEO I respect your response and can see the passion you have for what you do. I would also want to clear the water and make sure there was no perceived connections between this guys actions and the operation you run. I know your operation and know that your all of bunch of honest, hard working, great guys. Crawler...great post. Its a tough situation when all of your interactions with someone are positive/honest/ethical and then see them commit a stupid/selfish crime outside your dealings with them. There is no justification for what this guy did and he is going to have to live with the consequences of his actions. I personally think it would be ashame to hide the trophy animals that were legally harvested but as boneaddict said...whether is it right or wrong...it will be tough to overcome the shroud over any of this guys accompishments.

Isn't this guy in a Mossback video? I also heard they are letting him plead out to a misdemeanor charge so he won't have a felony conviction on his record. Nice!!!!!!!!

I hunted in Alaska over 10 years ago and he was my guide working for an outfitter. I had nothing but good things to say for him at that time.

Sorry to hear that,

Archer

love this post- little hard on DEO

I'm thrilled to see that of all the posts on here you guys get the most riled up over a poaching post. It's funny how the same guys who would never EVER teach their kids to steal from a store, or cheat on a test, or lie to their mom, will think nothing of taking them out and "teaching" them to bend or plum-ass break the rules and laws of hunting.

I also wanted to remind everyone that while we are all addicted to hunting- for guys like DEO- this is their livelihood, and I totally understand how, as he was reading this story about this dipstick poacher, all of a sudden it's his business' name that's being used instead. I might of flipped my lid a little too. I know a lot of outfitters that deserve that kind of scrutiny, but I don't know DEO.
