I'm curious to see what type of bucks are coming out off of the Bookcliffs. Anyone have any pics of bucks they have taken out there in the past few years??

Thanks,
Elk

LAST EDITED ON May-07-07 AT 01:03PM (MST)[p]I killed this buck last year during the ML season. Do a search and you will find a few more.

Snuffer,
Nice buck. Is that 204 gross official? Because to me that don't look like 204. It looks more like 190 gross to me and a net around 180 but the picture might not do it justice.

Here's a 2005 buck of my dad's. LOTS of bucks but no monsters seen. He shot this one the last evening we were there.

Hey that hook and split on that one side look very similar to the one I got that year out there. Must share some genetics.

Snuffer, where were you when you got that pig? Looks like you were in the low country?! Congrats on an awesome buck!

This is a bad pic but it is all i have on my puter. He is 28 1/2 and gross scores 193. My dad shot this buck and he said he saw one that was a tiny bit bigger and let him go and seen a huge buck but could not catch up to him. This was in 05 or 04 cant recall

This is my 2006 Bookcliffs Mule Deer. There are a ton of small bucks in the Bookcliffs but if you get away from the roads there are some monsters. It also helps to be VERY lucky (like me).

Damn!!! That's a whopper!Thanks for sharing!

Work to hunt!! Live to hunt!! And the rest spent keeping the wife happy!!

For what it's worth...Here's my take on the Bookcliffs.

Shoot the first deer you seee that will make YOU happy.

There are a ton of deer, there are Boone and Crockett deer, just not a lot of them (duh!!!), but if you make up your mind before you pull the trigger that you will be happy with your deer that's what it's all about.

Hope you get a monster.

Alan

I got a decent one last year. I can e-mail someone pics as I am having a hard time getting themon here.

Pretty simple......I decided to hike in rather that road-hunt & found this guy up in the ribbon cliffs. Could care less what he scores but he is 31-plus inches wide......8 x 5 & is very heavy. I was very lucky to come across him & it was worth the wait to get this tag. Best of luck to all with that tag this year!!

ASB, what hunt did you conect with that pig on, was it rifle or muzz. I drew the rifle tag this year and all these pictures are getting me pumped up for what looks like a great hunt!!!

Rifle. He was rutting with three does. Saw many other great bucks off the beaten path but he was the best one.

Actually,
this is not my buck, but a relatives.
It is a low country buck.
and it has been taped more than once,by people who are-not
"number-stretchers", if any thing the extra 1/8th's of inches were rounded down instead of up.
My opinion is that there should be only 2-scores
"good-enough or not" I think this buck would be good enough,
even if it was a "henry's buck".
Don't you guys?????

That buck has almost the same horn make-up of my deer. By the way, I don't post much here....call me an idiot, how do you retrieve a PM here???

Elkster,

You also might want to check out Shawn Labrum's DVD, "Wild Mountain Mule Deer". It was filmed in the Bookcliffs. I bought my copy of the DVD from the MonsterMuleys on-line store.

Seems like the Book's have a lot of non-typical genetics. A lot of the bucks on the DVD (and in the photos on this post) have stickers/klckers coming off their G2's and 3's.

Good luck to all of you that have the tag this year. It looks like an awesome hunt!

Shawn just sent me that dvd and I watched it last night. Some nice deer on film. Nothing huge, but some nice deer for sure.

I can't wait to get after them with my muzzleloader!!

HEY! I was looking for a pic of this buck. How'd YOU get one? You're not the favorite nephew. ;-)

Anyway, what did this one score, Roy? Didn't it net 190 something? At any rate, Aunt Sybil is PROUD of this buck. She's got a pic of it in her wallet and carries it around with her everywhere. Can't say that I blame her. Nice buck!

I also bought the DVD at the MM store. Like you said a pretty good video, not a lot of huge bucks. But, good none the less...
Great bucks guys! I am excited for the upcoming hunt. It's my wife who acctually has the tag. I couldn't pull the thing with 7 points.... Guess it's just my luck... Any how congrats to all again on some dandy bucks!

Well I wasn't going to name any names but since you did TK, here are a couple more pics of that buck that show it off a little better. I believe it scored 190 and some change. Not bad for a 5'3" widow!

just don't be stupid like me and shoot a 23" 4x5 in the first 4 hours. . . oh yeah and the only good scouting will do for you is just to see the caliber of deer that are there. they will move i promise

When do they put out the stats that show how many points it took a NR to draw this year?

>Buckblaster, are you responding to me...

I think he is, Jake. Shhhhh....don't tell anyone about the Bookcliffs. It's the best kept secret of the West. Shhhhhhhh! You're screwing up the odds.

What!!!!!!! they are letting NR draw for the books now (the downfall of the area) I been hearing that you can't find a wide buck up in that area they all run around 23" or so. But that's the kind I like, they fit better in the back of the pickup.
