LAST EDITED ON Jul-18-12 AT 04:59PM (MST)[p]Looking for some help on where to start looking, I do not need gps marks but some general areas to start in would be appreciated.Went down last week and saw a few bulls and one possible shooter.
My brother has drawn the rifle tag after 17 years and we would like to get as much scouting in as possible between now and the opener.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

What season is his hunt? What part of the mountain did you start looking? I have an idea or two for ya.

There are elk from one end of that mountain to the other! Start in the middle and go any direction. Get up early and find bugles in the dark. Go from there. A rifle tag on that unit should not be hard to fill unless you are looking for some 380+ giant.

PM sent,
Where are you looking now? Where are you looking to hunt when the hunt rolls around? Are you or your bro familiar with the mountain?

Thanks for the info,we are looking for a great bull 350 or better, and we will work our arsses off looking, nun the less we are looking forward to a great hunt.

We have been looking on the kosherem side over by monroe peak, hunts lake, upper box creek, My brother has the early rifle tag.
Thanks for any help Odocoileus

Gonelkin, the places you posted are all over the map. The Koosherem side has both box creek areas. Monroe peak is in the middle and Hunts lake is on the other side, the Monroe side. My family owns the property right off the peak. The peak road actully goes through our property edge. The main road right at the top also goes right through our property.

I have not been able to get down there this year yet. But some good areas to check that I have seen bulls in the past are Over by Barney Lake/Manning Meadows area. Another good area is by Monroe meadows. We have a big chunck of property by this area also and I have seen some GREAT bulls there. Feel free to PM me and I might be able to get some more info to you. GOOD LUCK and have a fun hunt.

I realize that the area I have talked about is from one side to the other, we camped near rock creek and traveled the roads mostly to start learning what roads go where and we ended up going over the top of monroe peak and down to monroe.
We do not know the mountain very well (yet) but with some help from the guys on here and alot of scouting we will.
