Flying into Hermosillo

I'd like a little advice from you Mexico hunters. I've only been once and we drove down. Is it less of a hassle to fly into Hermosillo and go through the checkpoints at the airport, or is it about the same hassle as driving in and stopping at these checks? Thanks for the help.

It is much easier to fly if you are hunting with an outfitter. Its not difficult to drive down but I think that doing everything in the airport is much more efficent

Flying has to be easier. We drove down five years ago with the crooked guide, he met us at Nagols & got stop three times. Not only stop, but took everything out of my truck, three different times. Freind that set the trip up, didn't do his homework, we got screwd big time, but never to old to learn. We ask the guide if he could buy us two bottles of tequila, Ron handed him a 100.00 dollar bill, you have to remember we are in Mexico, we got our change back, two dollars. There were three of us, we just starting laughing, we knew we had been had. Never seem a buck, but we share everything we had with our guides, they were grateful. If you have a good guide, that takes care of is clients, no doubt it is different. If I ever went again, no doubt, I would fly. Mike

What buck was yours in the mag? Was it the one in the Hunter Ross story?

How the heck you been! Did you ever get that pic I sent you? I never heard back from you. Hope all is going well. Keep in touch

My buck was on P 31...One Giant Typical. I was pleased, felt it turned out nice. What did you think of it?

I have flown in to Hermosillo many times and as long as you have all of your paperwork in order it's a very easy process especially if your outfitter meets you and walks you through. We had a problem once however... One of the guy's did not check his gun permit and as it turned out he provided all the correct informtion but when they issued the gun permit they transposed two numbers within the serial number on his gun. The military guy at the airport was not going to let him take his gun in to hunt with. It finally turned out okay but it was the outfitter that got his gun released after a 3 hour delay. Other than that we never had a problem. I would recomend flying over driving.. hands down.

Great story! Just curious was your buck 216 gross like the mag says or 212 like you said in the other post. Regardless it is a whooper buck and the epitome of an old mexico buck! Shooting a buck on the first day kind of takes the hunt out of it doesn't it? However, in my case, I wouldn't have changed a thing. See my story same issue, page 89. Congrats on such an awesome buck and what a way to make an 18 year wait worth it.

LAST EDITED ON May-29-07 AT 01:03PM (MST)[p]Steve, we green scored my buck around 216 when I shot it. I didn't take into account the spread credit deducts (over 4") so it would gross closer to 212". It looks like it will be top 10 SCI all time, and net out at 205" net B&C. I would definitely liked to have hunted longer, but taking a buck like that was an experience I'll never forget for sure. Even though my chances are slim I'll ever see another like that, I'd love to go back down there. By the way, a big congrats to you also.

I hate to say it but I'm a little jealous, but heck, who wouldn't be. Congrats again!
Are you going to try your luck again next year?

Steve

Steve, I watched you video at behindthefence.com. It was fantastic. I haven't seen many videos of Sonora hunting, so I especially enjoyed seeing yours. What network do your shows come on? I'm not sure if I'm going again this year, but we're working on it.
