Just wondering what kind of bucks have been taken the last couple of years on the Fillmore, Oak Creek LE unit. Finally was fortunate enough to have drawn a tag. I was wondering what to expect. I talk to a few people that have said it is a tuff but very fun hunt. Thats all I am after, however it would be nice to take a nice buck in Utah.

I'll send you an email of some pictures from last year and last winter also. What weapon do you have?

I drew that rifle tag in 2001, had a great hunt but very tough country. Limited roads and very steep. I elected to go on my first guided hunt and contracted with Dry Creek Outfitters right there out of Delta. Brice Pilling knows that country well and put me on some nice bucks. I ended up shooting a 30" buck on the second day. Wide is not the norm for this unit all the bucks we saw were tall and heavy and dark. I have detailed notes on all the spots we hunted, I stayed on after my hunt to help out with other hunters in camp and see more country. I've been trying to draw that unit again. Be willing to hike, hike up. Again very steep country and lots of hidden pockets containing deer. If i can help you more let me know.

I also drew the Fillmore Oak Creek rifle. I heard it is a ruff hunt? Any help would be great. Thanks

I've hunted the unit several times for elk, and I've been trying to draw a deer tag. It is a rough hunt. The deer population is not as high as other units, and there are better units in the state. But there are some decent bucks on that mountain if you look hard enough. There's a lot of new grass on the mountain after the fires last year. Maybe this will help things out a bit? I'd like to see some success pics if anyone has any.

The deer hunting on the Oak Creeks is a very rough and hard hunt. The deer numbers are low with the average bucks scoring in the 150 to 170 class with a few exeptional bucks taken every year. I run a guide service and we specilize in the Oak Creeks for deer. If you decide you would like some help we would be pleased to give you a hand. Last year we took a 196" buck. www.horneebiggame.com
