Just curious if any of you have ever hunted any of these units and could shed any light for me. This will be my first time hunting the area...I drew 3rd season. Not looking for honey holes, just somewhere to start, while avoiding the private property. Any help would be much appreciated. PM me if you prefer.

Thanks,
Fuzzy

I live in the area and have hunted most parts of these units for deer, bear, elk and sheep. This is a huge area from La Veta Pass to Salida to Pueblo.. Send me a PM about any specific areas you are looking at and I should be able to share some info.

I hunted this are in 02' when I lived in Pueblo. I was just up there a couple weeks ago fishing at San Isabel, spent a week up there camped off nine mile road. Most of the bucks we saw were down at Beulah in the famers fields. They still had the high country closed down the third week in May so there was no access up Geenhorn Road. Be sure to check out Bishop's Castle while up there. I can give you some good areas off of Greenhorn if you pm me.

I hunted the third season in 86 last year. Found some good bucks, and found an area that looked perfect on the last afternoon. Saw deer 5 minutes after parking the truck and glassing at 1:00pm. I'll have to get back to you on specifics later.

It's Bush's fault!!!

unit 84 has some nice deer around san isabel lake. Pole creek ATV trail is a great starting place.

Speaking of San Isabel, I took this buck in 02' back down the road and up a trail about 1/2 mile. It was my first muley.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I truely appreciate it. Pictures are great too! Is this what I should expect in terms of the size of bucks? Keep your comments coming.

Look for bigger, I shot the first legal buck I saw since I had only been hunting whitetails and blacktails before. I saw at least 10 bucks that were bigger than this in 8 days hunting. A lot more than that later in the year after the third season, all of them still up high. That is just my opinion.
