Spread of a 350 bull

What are typical measurements for the spread of a trophy bull in the 330-370 range? I have a new rangefinder that can be used to measure widths of things you range. I got a good NM elk tag and for the first time will try for a 330 plus bull and knowing the spread can help with field judging.

As a starting point I have a couple 290ish bulls that are right around 37" at widest points (beams OR poins).

There is such a variation with that, it could be anywhere from the low 30's all the way to some freak in the high 40's to 50" range. It's going to take more than that to determine what a 350" is.

I have helped a few friends with their elk tags. They bother killed 340 and a 350 bull. They measured both at 45 wide.

That's like asking what is the standard size of boobs on a 7 out of a 10!! :7

Width has little to do with gross score. You can have a 32 inch wide 380 bull and a 45 inch 320 bull. Think about it. From average to narrow or wide u only vary about 5-6 inches. Add 1 inch to each point and he grows 12 inches

The answer you are more or less looking for is 40". Probably the more reliable measurement is the ear width, +/- 21". That will help you gauge width as well.

Dad's Bull went 359" and had a spreat of 39". My Bull went 363" and had a spread of 46". As someone above mentioned, tine lenghth will grow a score a lot faster than width.

Slam, what is the size on those???? :D

And look at the Skoronsky bull... I think it had a 38" inside spread but scored over 440.....

If you see something you like, as Swamp man Troy would say, "Chute it Liz"...

The point spread on a GREAT rack is about 12 inches. :)

The average spread on an elk probably about 40.

My 370ish bull had an inside credit of 53. HUGE
My Friends from this year, 370 bull had a spread of 41.

On the other side of that, my bull was 50" wide, had 50" main beams and scored 312"........

THanks guys I am very aware it can vary. I am worried I will get trigger happy and shoot a 290 bull. I would be happy with it but I have a few 290ish bulls already and this is a great tag (15 first muzzleloader) so I plan to hold out.

I have a new rangefinder that I can set to measure spread - in order to give me a "feel" for size knowing a bulls almost exact spread is at least a starting point.

I recently saw on Eastmans hunting journal a tip that a great bulls horns will be at or over the top of his back when his head is down feeding. I thought that was a great tip and after watching several videos it seemed like it held true.

I could set my rangefinder to give me height but with the curvature of antler etc it did not seem like it would help a lot.
