Shooting light was over an hour ago!?!?

Hard to have pics when UTAH's DWR sucks and does not give archers half a chance. I need to move out of Utah.
hot dry year almost no bugling hunters everywhere what a JOKE.

Why do all these guys who don't get one complian after the hunt? The season dates are clearly posted on the site when you put in. The hunt that just started today is an "any weapon hunt". Wait a few more years and use a bow then.

I bow hunt just as much as the next guy but when it comes to Utah I am waiting for either the any weapon or the muzzy tag. They won't change the dates, but if they did, just think how much your odds will suck when more people jump into the archery pool if they put the any weapon hunt in October.

It is what it is.

If you don't like the dates pick up a rifle! If its hot sit water! If there are too many hunters, find another spot or hike a bit further! I and others have killed silent elk before!
The hotter and drier it is the easier it is to kill an archery elk! Stay out all day, you'd be surprised at how active elk are even when it's hot and dry and hunters are "everywhere".
Look at Arizona, it doesn't get much hotter and dry. No one holds a gun to your head and makes you buy an archery tag.

Boo hoo..... Archers have a good chance, change the way you hunt....

Lots of shots this morning on the berry. We passed looking for a little better. I would expect the pics to start rolling in when they are done packing them out.

I know of 1 340 bull that hit the dirt in the bookcliffs first thing this morning. He will be posting pictures and a story probably this evening.

Pretty tough to cry about dates after the fact, if you want to change the dates then do it in the off season. Utah could follow arizona's example and change dates allowing mainly archery in the prime rut and make very few rifle tags available in the rut. This way more hunt opportunity, less bulls killed. Makes a lot of sense, never have figured out why utah gives the archery guys tougher dates and rifle guys better dates, unless they want real high success/kill hunts and less hunter opportunity?

You have to admit that it is stupid to have the rifle hunt during the peak of the Rut....

If you moved the archery hunt to the peak of the rut you could give out more tags because the success rate would be lower than the rifle.

Moving the rifle hunt out of the rut does NOT lower the success by that much and in most cases it stays the same.....

More tags for Archers = more opportunity, not necessarily more kills, which means more people get a chance to hunt Elk and the quality won't suffer.

EDIT: Sorry Tooele, didn't see your post. Heres your +1

Its all about the $$$$$. Break up the romance between the DWR and SFW and stop selling convo tags for $25k and then you will see some things change.

Just another day with the same old booobs!

I saw all the quads and nice trailers being put to good use on the archery hunt. It makes me think.

Some guy hunted hard and didn't score, some hunted hard and did score but most rode around on their quads or stayed in the trailers with the generator running. Hmmm
Zeke

Ha Zeke, I spent 4 days with a buddy on the wasatch. Had 3 different 330+ bulls that we just could not get from 70 yards to shooting range. So we passed. Hunted our asses off, came close but no cigar. Luckily the rifle dudes were all around bugling their a$$es off of the canyons we were in the bottom of hunting. That seemed to help! Of course the rut is of no advantage so we did not care if they were bugling or not!

Either way my wife has a muzzy tag on the boulder and there will be some love sick bull that we are gonna whack next week!

You rifle guys have it so EASY its almost sad.... :)

It is your own damn fault for putting in for a wasatch tag if you are complaining about overcrowding....That happens when there are 500+ elk tags on a unit, not to mention deer, etc. I spent 20 days in the books archery hunting two years ago. Off the road, I ran into exactly three hunters and all I had to do was go a little futher off the edges to get away.
