I'm new to this site and wanted to start out asking for help. This buck was killed by my wife's grandfather in approximately 1961 but he became very sick in the early nineties and sold it without much of the family knowing. The family would like to buy it back and keep it in the family. If anyone has seen it please send me an e-mail to [email protected]

LAST EDITED ON Jun-28-07 AT 10:23PM (MST)[p]Gota be an idaho buck, good luck on your quest. . .

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

Smartass. Anyone can see that but where was it killed.

I apologize for leaving off where it was killed. It is a southern utah buck killed near the nevada border west of Enterprise.

No, I don't live in Elko but it's a great place. I actually live in Enterprise, Utah. I chose the name because I was talking to a latino neighbor in spanish one day and we were discussing hunting and he said he really likes elko and I thought it was funny. He made elk into a spanish word just by adding an O even though i'm pretty sure it's not the word for it. As far as the quest to find the deer I am trying to contact the gentleman who said he knows where it's at and were hoping it works out. Thank you to everyone who has been so great here on this site.

Hey everybody. I got ahold of Ryan Hatfield with Boone and Crockett and he gave me all the details and he let us know how much it scored and where it's at. It is listed in the books as unknown and he is graciously going to get it changed to list my wife's granfathers name. That is the great thing about the record books and the work Ryan does. It helps clear up any misinformation and give credit where it's due. Thanks everybody for all your help and a big thanks to Ryan. You can always rely on other sportsmen to help you out when you need it. You guys are the best!!

Found two Bucks in the NT class that might be the one here in mention.
In the 1999 11th edition on pages 247 there is a Unk Hunter 1961 in Newcastle, UT that is scored at 260-1/8". It is owned by UT Div. of Wildl. Resc.
On page 249 but 1960 and owned by Hollinger & Howard at 254-4/8".

The gentleman that has it lives in Palm Springs, CA and apparently owns quite a collection but unfortunately we might not be able to get it back but we will definitely look in to getting some replicas made.

I'd bet I have seen this buck. I'm assuming you're talking about the Howard collection. Its an amazing collection that he has. He lives in downtown Palm Springs and is an old high scholl friend of a friend of mine. I was invited to walk through his house. Unbelievable. I remember some of the mule deer mounts were breathtaking. Hopefully he'll sell it to you! Good luck.
