Odd behavior. What is this buck doing?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-30-07 AT 09:31AM (MST)[p]I've videoed this buck a few years ago and he did something I've never seen before. Its happens 1 min 22 sec into the clip just after he gets done mounting a doe. It looks like he is barking at another buck that is getting to close to his doe. I didn't hear any noise from the buck but there was a lot of wind noise so it was hard to hear anything let alone a deer. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or know what he was doing.

Interesting...to me it looks like he is dry heaving something up from his rumen--after you notice him chewing on something. It doesn't look like he is vocalizing it looks more like a stomach issue.

Deadeye,
He is actually trying to catch a fly/bee, or other type of bug flyin in his face. I had to laugh after seeing this footage because I filmed a buck do the same thing twice this past fall while rutting. He was also grunting, which I had never heard a muley buck do either.

Yelum thats what I'll thought he was doing. I've heard muley bucks grunt before but this was the first and only time I've seen it if indeed that is what he is doing. In the past 15 years I've seen my far share of rutting muleys but this was a first for me. I still wouldn't rule out the hairball suggestion just yet but I'm leaning towards the grunt.

Deadeye he wasn't gunting, he really was actually trying to catch a fly/bee. Thats what he was chewing on afterwards.
