LOOKING FOR INFO FROM ANYONE THAT HAS BEEN ON THIS HUNT BEFORE OR KNOWS ANYHTING ABOUT THE AREA

Great tag. hope for snow, the deer will move down without it but it will help a lot. Hunt as high as you can snow or no snow. The larger older bucks tend to stay higher longer. I would focus my attentions on Onion Valley north to Taboose creek. Also don't be afraid to to hunt the lava flows. If your willing to go guided give Branden (jerkee) at 3M outfitters a a holler.

G3 is on fire. 12000 acres burned 0% contained. That is very critical winter feed. This is bad. Independence has been evacuated.

Ok heres what I know, I just got back from Indipendence (was helping with structure supression) The fire burned east to and got most of Indipendence Campground, and has jumped 395 around fort Independence, the hatchery is safe but one home was lost next to the hatchery, and one was lost in the south fork of oak creek, Eight mile ranch (8 miles north of Independence) lost out buildings, and some corals. the fire got as far north as blackrock/sawmill near Aberdeen. USFS is letting it burn west up to the crest. 30+thosand acres burn so far in less than 30 hours.

You don't really want that tag, it isn't any good, so just mail it on over to me since I didn't get drawn.

Congrats are in order for you. Others have covered the basics except that you need to have minimum size of deer that you want, otherwise, you will shoot the first big buck you see and it may or may not be the best one. Plan on hunting the whole season, cause it can change overnight that time of year. Shoot me a private if you want to know more. BLU

Congratulations, I drew this tag several years back. You're in for a fun hunt. The weather will dictate how high you have to go. No need to really scout before two weeks from the hunt other than to familiarize yourself with the area. From what I saw last Sunday the fire wasn't South of Independence and it had burned the lower stuff between 395 and the bases of the mountains but it was still going by the hatchery. If you have to go high and it's still bear season you might want to have a tag, lots of bears. If I had the tag I'd get there four days before the hunt and scout it hard but low impact.

Good Luck.
