Daughters LE Bull

My daughter drew a Diamond Mtn permit. It was hot and dry, the bulls were quiet at first but, did pick up as the hunt went on. We didn't see very many elk, they were hold up in the trees staying out of the heat during the day and with the late rut the bulls weren't with the cows. So, I eventually decided to go in after the elk and see if I could get some out in the open.

I bumped this bull and one other out of the Mahogany trees. the bulls split up and this one was moving straight at her. She waited until it turned and stopped at 70 yards. She put 3 shots in him and he dropped on the 3rd shot as she made a perfect heart shot.

This is her first bull and I think she did a great job toughing it out and making the shot. She did exactly as I taught her; "if the bull is what you want, make that decision and then forget about the antlers and then put the cross hairs on his shoulder and squeeze the trigger".

She was sitting just below the ledges in the back ground of these three pics.

This pic is of the hill side that I picked up this bull. He came out of the trees and headed towards my daughter, then cut down to the bottom of the canyon.

This last pic is how close she dropped the bull from the truck. We made quick work of the bull to get him boned out and the meat back to camp in the coolers. I don't know how anyone could get a bull packed out without the meat spoiling if they were very far away from a road.

She's already looking forward to the 5 year wait and then start putting in again.

I need to thank my brother for being there to help out. I also, want to thank all my MM friends, especially for those who gave me advice and suggestion for this hunt.

THANK YOU!!!

Great elk and all the better that you had the hunt together. As stated, always a plus when an elk is down close to the road!

I appreaciate all the comments. It was alot of fun and it was great spending time with my daughter out in the hills. Her husband doesn't hunt so, she (we) looks forward to time we spend together doing something she (we) really enjoys. As a bonus the fishing was great and seeing alot of deer.
