washington tags

I drew my third choice, a Kahlotus B Muzzleloader tag Nov. 20 - Dec. 8. I'm very excited and am really looking forward to this hunt. If anybodies got any helpful info, I'd appreciate it. Scott

I drew a Teanaway D, late archery. I don't know if is neccessarily a good tag but I love the area. I enjoy the rut hunt with some snow, so for me it will be a good hunt.

your joking! did you catch a poacher? I finally drew a deer tag with 15 last year. This state sucks.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-22-07 AT 05:01AM (MST)[p]A system that allows a hunter to accumilate upwards of 20 points for deer or elk and not get drawn, while a hunter with 2 points can draw a premier permit is really F###ed up.

Supply and Demand. Look at Washington Desert "A" as an example. Last year 5395 hunters applied for the 15 permits. With those odds it would take 360 years for each of those applicants to draw the tag if none of them are ever drawn twice. Those are great odds if you compare it to drawing the 1 and only Swakane Sheep tag for which 1785 folks applied. Did Moses live 1785 years? If you do, you are guaranteed a sheep tag. I meet at least one other hunter every year that states with a kind of certainty that since he has "X" number of points, then he will be drawn next year for sure. Then I have to open my mouth and inform him that about everybody else in a high demand pool has roughly the same odds since the majority of us have all been donating since the start of our system. It's a game most of us pay to not play. What would help is a system by which hunters who tag out during the general season have their late season tag returned and given to another applicant. Last year I noted that certain late season units had about 50% participation. I've been drawn for Desert "A" in 2004, and my son drew Slide Ridge "A" in 2006. We each had maximum point accummulation at that time. We don't ever expect to win again, but we'll keep on donating to a good cause while accepting the fact that we aren't Moses. Good luck next year, and the year after that, and that, and that..........

cd, Beautiful country and a great tag. You'll be doing a lot of glassing for that hunt, and should see lots of deer. There are definately folks on this site that are going to be able to give you better guidance than I can. But you guys are going to have a blast, and should both be able to shoot some good bucks. Scott

HC.....I drew that tag two years ago and ended up taking a respectable buck on the last day. Passed up a couple better earlier in the hunt and saw a couple more killed that were hawgs. My cousin/hunting partner drew it this year. I'm sure I'll be back up there giving a hand when needed. Barring any crappy weather like I experienced (FOG) should be a good hunt for you.

Still don't understand how someone could have 19pts. or even 15 for that matter and not get drawn for Elk.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-07 AT 09:37AM (MST)[p]I was really supprised that I didnt draw with 19 points.I guess theres always the raffle tickets. At least I drew Montana. Im still waiting to see if I drew A permit there.

I got Drawn for a Spring Bear tag in Huckle Berry unit 121. I hunted 48 days out of a 60 day season. I killed my bear on the 2nd to last day. 125 pound sow. 1 shot to the neck and my season was over.

My party drew the Entiat B tag for deer and the Observatory B for Elk. God I love Washington.

Personally, I think our system works just fine. Hunters with few points still have a shot, but the squaring of the points give guys with many points the best odds. I echo Crabcreekhunter's comments. If you want to hold out for Desert A, Pearrygin, etc., it's likely gonna take a long long time, if ever, regardless of how many points you have. Simple supply and demand. If someone doesn't bother to check the odds and whines about not drawing year after year...well, that's what you get for not doing your homework. For those of you who have a ton of points but don't draw, I'd be interested to hear what hunts you're applying for...my guess is you're not applying for the Palouse whitetail tag.

my 12 year old son got drawn for the youth hunt for the desert unit 290 he only has the 22 and the 23 of september to hunt if anybody could give me some pointers it would be much appreciated thanks

No deer tag, but drew a Peaches ridge Archery bull tag... hopefully my shoulder heals by then!
