Do You Think Colorado Hunting Vouchers are worth the money they are asking for them, from $1000 to $8000 or more,I Can Go On A Guided Trip For Less! Just Curious! Thanks And Good Hunting To all Gordon

Gordon,

The tags you can pick up for under $2500 are well worth it. Just about every unit in Colorado holds a 200" buck or 2. Me personally, I wouldn't ever pay $8000 for just a tag. For that kind of money you can go on a quality guided hunt for some monster bucks. JMO though. I'm sure there are others here that will disagree with me.

It's always an adventure!!!

If you think gaining a preference point, or waiting one more year is worth $1500 plus the license fee. I can't believe what people are willing to pay for units that take 0-2 points to draw.

I also think it is crazy what people pay for 0-2 point units. I looked into getting landowner tags for a coulple buddies of mine that didn't draw our second choice unit. The price for the tags was over $1000! $1000 for a unit that we could have drawn easily with no points with if we had put it as a first choice. Now that is an expensive preference point. And to think that people complain about paying $140 for a NV or AZ license so they can get a point. CO is great for deer these days, but those kind of prices are out of control.

I THINK WE ALL SHOULD BOYCOTT THE "TAG PIMPS" UNTIL THEY REALIGN THEIR VOUCHER PRICES BACK TO THE REALM OF REALITY. SOME OF THESE GUYS WANT TO RETIRE AFTER ONE HUNTING SEASON OF SELLING VOUCHER TAGS IT SEEMS. I HAVE YET TO BUY MY FIRST VOUCHER TAG. ----YD.

I Agree Just Wanted To See What Everybody Thought,These Tag Prices Are Getting Out Of Control,Tag Pimps! Thats Good.Good Hunting Gordon

This issue has been hashed over so many times its getting very old. But that said, I despise the tag pimps. Hope Colorado really fixes it next year. I'm not opposed to the landowner making $$$, Just not a middleman making $$$ and driving prices up.

I'm sorry to say that the "middle man" has already driven the prices up. Don't think for a minute that the landowners don't know what those "tag pimps" sold their tags for. They may be farmers and ranchers but they are smart businessmen. As long as there are landowner vouchers, you won't ever see the prices come down. There may be changes ahead as far as where and when you can hunt but the prices are only going to go up. Just like you won't see gas at $1 a gallon again.

As a general rule figure $500 to $800 for every point it would have taken to draw the tag. If its a tag for a 3 point area figure on paying $1500 - $2400 for the voucher. OUCH! If the voucher is for a hunt that would have taken ten points to draw then the price will probably be in the $5000 - $8000 range. Double OUCH!

Some people like to say landowners or middlemen are to blame for this & that. Heck, its just market forces at work. If anything is to be done it needs to be done by the CDOW. They created this program years ago and just put it in place...Well I'm sorry, but in order for any program to remain true to its intent it needs to be monitored, tweaked, updated and evolve. Rarely do we get things right the first time so suck it up and get to work.

Here' a few ideas:
Make a voucher good unit wide for the landowner or a member of his immediate family. If it is transfered then it is only valid on said landowners property.

Follow New Mexico's plan, a voucher can be redeemed for a license that is only valid on the private property that qualified for the voucher OR a voucher can be redeemed for a unit wide license but then the property that qualified for the voucher has to be made accessable to any and all licensed hunters in the unit.

Here's my favorite idea:
Private landowners that participate in the landowner voucher program have to reregister every five years. All relevant data is in a computer in Denver. PUBLISH A LIST! Names and addresses of landowners that participate in the voucher program and the unit numbers that their property is in. Wow, wouldn't that make sense????

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-07 AT 04:31PM (MST)[p]I like the published list of landowners idea. I thought of that when they passed the new law trying to cut the tag brokers out of the loop. Now nobody knows where to look for tags. The CDOW should post a list on their website with every landowner that gets tags and say what unit and season the tags are for and give contact info for the landowner or an agent that the landowner designates. They could update the list as landowners sell out, and maybe even put the landowners asking price and disclose if the landowner is going to allow access to their property. That would make things much easier and make the entire process more transparent and less likely to get abused.

Daxter, I ask game & fish about doing exactly what you said and they said NO WAY!

It does not look that tough to me.
