You make the call. Is it worth hunting in Montana where the wolves ate all the elk? I know Ive read and heard people saying it aint worth coming to Montana. All kidding aside. Im a resident. Been hunting the same basic area the last 8 years, heres this years bulls that myself and my father took. Public lands, No guides. My bull, biggest Ive taken.

Very nice bulls especially the second one. I would also say that just because you shoot bulls every year doesn't mean the wolves haven't put a hurt on the elk population. If it keeps going like it is now you wont be killing elk every year for very long.

I don't care if there is 10Million elk there, it looks to be too cold for me to weather by about 80 degrees!! Good for you guys.

Very Nice, great memories for you and your dad. Nice Bulls.

Thanks for comments. We make a pretty good hunting team that makes for good memorys.

I agree jarheadhunter that the wolves issue is a issue that needs to be and continue to be addressed and managed. My point was more geared towards theres still good hunting in Montana.

I like to also add to make more of an interesting story behind my elk, the elk gods where looking down on me last week. Reality, should not have been holding that bull in my hands on that overly brisk morning. Missed a rag bull afew days prior to taking this one. As with many hunters who can relate. Not the first time Ive missed and Im sure it wont be the last.

That's one of the few times you aren't mad for missing. LOL

Good job Shane, wish I could have been there to help pack out that bull. That's a nice bull. Have you scored it yet.

Casey

Hey Casey, I havent gotten it scored yet other than doing it myself. I plan on actually having someone who knows though to do so. Im not an expect at it. I measured conservitley.
332 1/2
Mel's guess will be pretty close I reckon.

332? I bet you will be pleasantly surprised. I'd say 345+ and that's probably net score. Heck if you said 359 I'd believe you. Nice bull. General tag?

"That's a special feeling, Lloyd"

Beech, looking at the kill photo, I was thinking 315ish. On your pack, a very healthy 330 but the mass may make it even more.

Looks like you and Dad worked for them, just being out in that weather, congrats!!!!

Just bought a couple of tons of hay today and was thinking how expensive the horses are getting. Then i saw your photo and I'm all good, THANKS!!!!!!!

Your welcome Califelkslayer.
Heres another bull from Montana that my mother took afew days ago. She drew a Breaks tag. We hunted a few days prior to the big snow storm and closed the deal after the storm. Saw elk everyday. We saw bigger elk but this is still a nice bull. Biggest shes ever taken. We made about a 2 mile stalk after watching 3 bulls go into a small patch of timber to bed. Her 7 08 did the job at about 200 yards. She was a trooper, no whinning on the stalk. It was a slippery climb to get into a shooting position. She made the shot referring to the picture straight above my fathers head from that ridgeline. 60 years old and still going strong.

Congrats on the bulls. Not sure where you were on the first 2 but the Western 1/3 of the state is where predators have had the biggest impact. The Breaks, not so much.

I wanted to take a scalp, but the kill was not mine.

Congrats on the FINE animals!!!

I've hunted the great state of MT 3 times now including in 2011 for deer and elk. Friend from Seeley Lake has been kind enough to "tag along" and help me find animals. The land owner trespass vouchers are awesome and you don't have near the pressure. YES wolves are a problem but there's still some game around :)

congrats again...
