Colorado Unit 11/211 for deer?

I was thinking of trying to get some left over tags in 11/211 for myself, my wife, and 2 boys. Would this be a good choice for the remaining deer permits? Would it be a fun, decent hunt for us? Would there be legitamate opportunities to shoot bucks?

Quality would not be the most important issue. It will be the first hunt for my wife and boys! so I would just like them to have achance to shoot their first bucks. If not then possibly a doe. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.

I'll also be giving that tag a shot on a solo hunt during second season. For any of you that are familiar with 211, are there actually elk thoughout the unit? Or just on some private land in the south end of the unit?
I feel confident I can find a buck since I'm alloting 6 days, but am hesitant to spend the dough for the elk tag if there won't be any around...
Figure I'll head up in a few weeks to have a look around and try to narrow down a spot to hunt, if someone is willing to point me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it! Thanks!

SneakAttack,
Pm sent back at ya!!

FamilyMan,
I've been going out about 2 times a week for about a month, mostly in unit 211. I have seen a few good deer, but have yet to see any elk. I would really like to! Is it a heavy migration area? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spots? I have found them in units 3, 301, 12,and 13.
But I think everyone will find them there!!lol
Oh-well, I'll keep trying.

there are elk all over in 11 and 211. It is a massive migration area, but a lot of resident elk also. There are a lot of deer in there, also. Have not seen too many really nice deer, but have seen some. Had a 6x7 190+ buck at 55 yards last Sept. He just pegged me before I pegged him.

There will be more elk in 211 in the fall then there are now, but you can find them any time of year if you look hard enough. There are generally a lot of hunters in this unit as well, but that seems true of an over the counter elk unit in Colorado. Good luck getting you family into some animals this fall.

I found the elk!! I came accross a herd of about 40, 3 branched bull, several spikes, and the rest cows!! Getting more and more familiar with area!! We are getting anxious!! Bring on the snow, and the hunts!!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-07 AT 00:29AM (MST)[p]Sageman,

My wife deleted it from our sent files, so let's try this again. Send your orginal e-mail to my personal laptop. [email protected] .

We got our Leftover Tags today. We got Units 211,11 deer 2nd season. And the wife got a cow tag for Units 3,4,5,301 and 441, for the 4th season. And I got a cow tag for Unit 2, for 4th season. The wife will get a bull tag for the 2nd season just in case she comes accross a bull, and I'll get a 3rd season bull tag so I can spend all my time on trying to find a bull, without any other distractions!
All in all, I think we did pretty good considering we only had Leftover tags to go with. I'm pretty happy with a Unit 2 cow tag, that should be fun!! We should have a blast this fall! The kids should be very happy as well!!

Sorry about the e-mail problems!! We'll get it right this time!!
Talk to you soon!

-Brent.

So you will be hunting 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons. U-da man!

This will be a great opportunity for you to observe how the weather affects the number of animals seen. Do share your observations.
