Fillmore Oak Creek South Cow Elk Hunt

Hello all!

My teenage son has a Fillmore Oak Creek South cow elk tag for 11/24/2012 - 12/31/2012. I understand that a large portion of the unit involving the Clay Springs fire area in the Oak Creek and Dry Creek drainages are closed until further notice for "fire rehab". I understand that many LE tag holders may have turned in their tags this year. Before I have my son turn in the cow elk tag I wanted to get any input that anyone is willing to share if they hunted this unit this fall or have any suggestions regarding finding a cow outside of the area closure? We were going to go down this weekend to scout and see what roads and areas are accessible between the fire closure and recent snow. I sincerely appreciate any advice/info that you are willing to share.

I seen a couple spikes last time I was out there , I'm sure a cow isn't too far off.
