I am one of the 35 lucky guys that drew the 12B west mz tag for 2007. It only took me seven years. Does anybody have any thoughts on where to start my scouting? I have heard alot about the Buckskin Mountains. Any other suggestions? I am planning on spending the whole week before the season starts scouting.

Me and a buddy had the same tag in 2005, it was a fun hunt. The Buckskins are a good place to start, really just the northern extention of the Kaibab. The big clearings will always have deer in them, and most of the hunters. Another place you might hear about is southwestern boundary, around gunsight pass I think. From what I gathered, migration from the Kaibab and Utah really helps this hunt. In 2005 it was warm and dry, so not much migration, we ended up spending 6 days in the Buckskins. Still lots of deer, but not as many big ones as we were hoping for. I believe there is a rifle hunt before the MZL hunt, so factor that into your scouting plans. Pray for some early weather, good luck,
JR

JRABQ's muzzy hunt was a good description of the early rifle hunt in 12B west last year. We got some snow and rain two nights before so it scattered the deer because of puddles all over. If you get the good weather the big boys should be there. Good Luck if it is dry hunt tanks away from roads.
