Big Washington Cougar

My hunting partner and his step-son went out last night looking for a bear. My partner Chad got out of the truck and walked to a cliff to glass below. Donny (the boy) was still getting his gear together at the truck. He started hissing to Chad and pointing into the brush. Chad could not see what he was pointing at but Donny raised his gun and said he was going to shoot "it". After the shot Chad ran up to him and saw something flopping around in the brush.

He went in and found a HUGE cougar. Donny said he heard it hiss at him. He looked up to see it looking right at him at 15 yards. It stood its ground hissing at him. He shot it right under the chin. He said it was about 180 lbs. I saw it after it was gutted. It was enormous, although it was a female. But a really large one. I would say probably 160 lbs though. He could not pick it up off the ground. They took some photos. I will try to post them if I can get them.

It was taken in the Peaches Ridge area.

Sounds like a close shot. Can't wait for pictures. Is he going to mount it or make a rug?

Lion season runs from Aug 1st through March 15th for most of the state.

That'd make ya about sh.t your wear wouldn't it? Peaches has definately got it's share of Cats in it. Look forward to seeing the pics.

Looks like it's gonna be a full mount. Season opens Aug. 1 in Washington. Luckily we are in a cool spell around here. They were up pretty high and got it cooled fast. Should make a great mount.

Sounds like he shot a nice trophy. Contgrats. The best part is that he saved a lot of deer and elk. WA Fish and Game out of Ellensburg are studying cougars in that area so they may be interested in hearing the story and looking at the cat.

Wow that would be a trophy for sure. I have killed a lot of lions and to get to 160 pounds of female weight I would have to kill two females in one shot. When do you think we can see the pics?
