Does anyone know of a scouting service in Utah. Someone who, for a daily fee, will scout a unit or area, and send you a report with maps and photos ?
There are company's that do this in AZ, Colorado and New Mexico, but I can't find anything in Utah.

Sounds like a great way to circumvent the guide licensing system to me. I hope this method takes off and puts guides in their place. I've just seen too much unethical practices when it comes to the guides ruining the DIY guy that waits 10-20 years to get a tag as their spotters and guides try to run you out of area where there are quality animals.

Do you not think that this system would be vulnerable to the say crap? I know for a fact that it will and just as a guide is willing to do questionable things with big money on the deal so will a scouting company...

check out team backcountry on facebook. i believe he does this. his name is dustin.

I'm not trying to circumvent the guide system, I'm also considering a guided hunt.

Elk
I have 13 Utah NR points going into 2013.
I'm getting to the point where I can start looking at some pretty good elk tags, and I want as much information as possible. I have a lot of questions to consider;
I want my best chance at a big 360+ bull.(pisscutter ?)

Burn the points now, 2013, on a good tag, or wait a few more years and go for a great tag, keeping in mind who knows what will happen a few years from now.
.
Rifle or muzzy ( shoulder problems rule out archery )

Guided or DYI

A quality guided hunt would stretch my budget, but I could pull it off.

I haven't decided on a unit yet, but a quality scouting service might change the equation a bit.

There are only a couple units where you could feel good about passing on a 350" bull. 360"+ is getting to be a pretty tall order in most units. Bulls of that class are in most units but they have become few and far between.

I don't have the info about the scouting service but I wanted to chirp in about the elk size.

Good luck in your quest and during your hunt!

Which unit? I know plenty of guys on here are willing to help.

quality of perseverance. It overcomes

Anaconda, when I dropped my points a few years back I went DIY. Granted I didn't kill the biggest bull on the unit, but we spent a week and had an absolute ball. I haven't ever used a guide, and baring the Alaska trip we all dream about probably never will. Most of the units in utah that you are now in the area to draw are pretty well known, and you should be able to find good elk relatively easily. Finding that one bull, harder, but I would rather hang with the fam hunting, then some dude watching my wallet the whole time.
