Two late season cows in 9 mile Cotton Wood Canyon hit the snow early this morning. Young Son and I smoked them. So proud he is such a awesome young man husband and father. His mom gave him that. He is one ELK Killing machine.

Good job. Way to get it done. It's amazing how frustrating people get on that hunt. I've been up there 6 times since New Years and seen elk every day. They gave us the slip his morning but we found a herd of twenty we are going after tomorrow.

Fox skinner There is a rumor going around that hunters were ripped off of all of their rifles, and hunting equipment, stolen out of their truck while dragging out their elk. This supposedly happened last week somewhere in 9 mile. Keep an eye out and everything locked up tight hidden and out of site. I am trying to gather information on this so all hunters up there can maybe find them if it is indeed true.

get a sticker that says "smile you are on camera", and put it on the window, could help some or at least make them think twice about breaking in to your truck.

Well we got it done on that herd of 22 yesterday morning. What a miserable day though. it took us 4 hours to get within 200 yards of the herd and then my brother missed the cow he shot at. They ran over the ridge but luckily they were heading towards the truck. They crossed the other side of the canyon and my brother decided to try a shot at them from 450 yards. He missed one of them and they took off running. The last cow was trailing behind a little so he decided to focus just on her and his third shot hit her in the head and dropped her. It turned out to be around a 550 yard shot on the run but he is shooting some good bullets and was confident in their abilities. I know it involved a lot of luck but it helps to practice before the hunt too. I have never seen an elk that large in my life. She was huge! I tell ya though, we were on that mountain for 12 hours total yesterday coming off in the dark and it was -17 when we got to our truck. After two days of hiking in knee deep snow, I am exhausted! Luckily I get 3 days to rest before the next hunter gets down here on Thursday for another go at them.

I haven't heard anything about these thieves except for what you posted on here. The people at the gas station never mentioned it either. We will keep our eyes open for suspicious behavior though. Thanks for the heads up.

Congrats on the kills, ya the elk we got were big as well. They are very skinny, not much fat on them at all. I am butchering all day taking a lunch break. I have one friend with a tag left I am thinking another week then head back down. It sure does make a long day from Salt lake all the way in hunt till dark then home. That canyon road can be tricky at night coming out. It sure is nice now that they have paved it all the way in. Were you guys out of.

That is a long day doing it all in one day from up north. I live in Price and I still think it is a long drive in the dark from the top of Cottonwood home. We have one more person with a nine mile tag and at least two others with the Anthro tag. I haven't spent much time on the Anthro portion since I killed a cow on it in 2009. Hopefully our herd of 20 elk stay in the same area as they did Sunday when we got one. We will be going up Saturday to do it again. Good luck!

Nice cow right there. I have never hunted Anthro. I like the 9 mile hunt Cottonwood especially. We have never had any luck on the Flat Iron Mesa side but I know others have. I have seen the gut piles. I have one guy with a tag left going back up on the 27 or 28 for a day or two. Let me know how Saturday goes and good luck

Nice job on getting it done. I like your picture better than the one your son sent me of these elk. We have harvested two over here in the last couple weeks and they had very little fat on them also. Makes me worry a bit.
