have 8 non res elk points. I want to go on a quality muzzy elk hunt. Any suggestions? I would like to kill a 300 plus inch bull. I would like to see alot of elk. Any help please!!!

I'm at 14 and have been asking that question for a number of years. Best advice I could give is start saving for a guided hunt on the southern side of the state...

8 NR points in CO... you should be able to draw a OTC tag but not guranteed.... ;-)

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-14-13 AT 02:08PM (MST)[p]Will this be your first elk hunt? Kind of sounds like it with those expectations even with a few points. You are in no mans land for the better units. Unless you go guided/and or private land, there is not a great expectation of seeing lots of elk and getting a 300+ bull. If you have waited that long, you might consider at least looking at a guided hunt or a tresspass fee private land hunt.

Even in a good draw area, you may have to work your butt off to get into elk. I hope you get a big-un!

After many an elk hunt, I have been reminded of the old indian saying: "Any elk good elk"

You guys make it sound like it is pert near immpossible to get a 300 inch bull in any of the OTC or low point draw units in Colorado.

I think I'm going to try this year OTC archery (unless I draw a special hunt somewhere). Never hunted Colorado archery OTC elk before. Last year after burning my points in Wyoming I decided piss on this point building. Just going to hunt general and low point type hunts except work through my points in Oregon and Utah. Probably try to rotate around Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and maybe Idaho. I've got maybe five to ten good years left in me.
