High Country Hunt, WA

I was wondering how many of you WA hunters have hunted the High Country hunts? I was able to get time off work last minute and was going to go and give it a try. I have done a little scouting in the high country but not very enough to expect to get anything big. I'm considering the Alpine Wilderness area.

Thanks JB

Unless you have pack mules, plan on wearing your boot soles down to get to where the bucks are! Good luck, let us know how you do.

The High Hunt harvest rate really goes up if you can pack in 10 miles to the high meadows and rocky ridges at or near timberline. There are a few spots where burns or avalanche chutes have created breaks in the old growth forest. Deer will be found around the edges of these open spots. Study maps to find the spots where deer might be closer to the wilderness boundaries. Good Luck

get a book called public land mules it will tall you avery thing for high country hunting go to sportsmans warhouse good luck

Be prepared for ALL weather! EXPECT wet and snow but have the layers to hunt 60 degree sunny days! The farther away from the road you get and the higher you go, the more bucks you will see... If you do not see much sign don't worry, just recently we were in an area that didn't have very much sign, but that was near the ridge tops, yet in the meadows we saw a lot of deer and some good bucks...
