Anyone here ever try helping someone by taking them to a place you think they might be able to harvest an animal.
Then on subsequent visits to that place always find their vehicle or friends stationed at the trail-head ?

Good question.
Showed a buddy, that was having a terrible time finding even the smallest buck, one of my public land honey holes......Been there 4 times since last year and have not seen less than 5 guys there each time. They all know my buddy too. Apparently he was shooting his mouth off about the spot and one thing lead to another......now the place sees a fair amount of traffic. Have not seen the big boys in there since.

Won't do that again. Will still try and help any other hunter be successful but will definitely think again about sharing info gained from long hours scouting.

Still pissed at the guy!

my buddy and his dad took me to their honey hole when i was fourteen, this is where i got hooked on slivering a deer. they showed me the exact spot where they had slivered many deer. i do not ever use that spot, even if invited. while hunting down there over the years i have been able to find my own honey hole, and i have never seen another person in there before. i told them what i had been seeing and where, details right down to the very bush that the deer fed on everynight. long story short i go to drop down to my spot and i see no deer, not even a doe. (i had always seen big mature bucks). i was wondering why they weren't there, and while i was perplexed i sat down and started glassing and something in the pines caught my attention. there was my friend, his girl friend and his dad all sitting in that exact spot. next thing i know, 4 big ol' bucks (ones i had seen day in and day out) busted up the ridge behind me. they were oblivious to the fact that they busted anyhitng out of there. and went on that night to tell me that it was the most worthless place and that i was a liar. even though he is my best friend, i won't hunt with him again.

beat this

A guy I hunt with showed a person who moved here a good spot for elk. That person came back the next year with 4 of his friends and showed them the same spot. We do not hunt there anymore.

I found a good locale for bucks and I am not showing anyone else. Let other people do their own scouting I say.

Yep. Just look at the parking lot it became when I gave out a little secret info.

Here is a story I have for you!!!
My good friend in Idaho (I won't use his name becuase some people here know him) he is a very dedicated hunted and that is what his life is about, he is the one who got me started in Mule deer hunting I now live for it! Unfortnally he does not hunt big game to much anymore becuase of being burned by everyone (not me though and maybe one other guy)! Anyways before I met him he had quit a few good honeyholes. One of these spots he killed 4 bucks over 30inchs one of these made Id. B&C an all of the deer he had the same Taxidemist do the work. My buddy is a guy who never told anyone good spots he wanted you to work for them like him and then he thought you would respect those spots even more (as a kid he wasn't hiked up this ridge 8 miles in alot of snow, he told me this story as we rode trail bikes in and I could not imagen hikeing in this area but he did it an he also got a buck out of there)! Anyways he killed alot more then just these 4 bucks he also killed a badger, grouse, bear, turkey, pheasent and had the taxi do ALL the work including the bucks. Well long story short I guess he put to much info on his entry sheet for B&C and he spoke to much to his Taxi cause he pulled into his deer camp one year and saw a monster buck haging in the next camp so they went over to check it out and ended up talking to the guy from Wy. and this guys was telling how he swapped hunts with his buddy and then the guys buddy steps out and it's my friend Taxi. Talking about a pissed off dude. My buddy is 6'6 and he told the taxi if he saw him or anyone he knows in this area agian he would kick there a$$ and then he would come kick his a$$. The Taxi kept trying to tell him he left the bigger buck up there for him, and that he would take him to it and he new my buddy would be mad that's why he left the bigger buck for him.
I guess a long story short Be very quit about your fav spots because big bucks do crazy things to people. I know of the spot my buddy got those deer at and I also know he is soooooo fed up he won't hunt big game anymore but I still would never ask to go to this spot and I never would go on my own..............(even though I would love too)

Ironic you bring this up. Two years ago a friend asked me if I would help him with an elk hunt. I said sure as I think the deer do better when the elk are moved out of this particluar area. He did not get an elk there but recently he told me one of his friends killed a buck last year in this area. When I took him into scout we saw 9 bucks come out of one of my honey holes. That is where he is now hunting. I have taken a 200+ inch buck and a 340+ inch bull from with in 1/2 mile from here. Now he is taking people in there. I really thought this guy would respect my areaq and not go back after the elk hunt two years ago. I just found this out on Thursday I am still sick to my stomach over it.

Overton-Great pic give us more.

A somewhat different story for me. A hunting partner of a few years who was also a lifelong friend of the family and I were trying out new areas one day and late in the afternoon came upon a very good looking area in which we glassed up three cow elk and one fine-looking muley. I returned the next morning and killed a cow from yet another heard of elk that were using the area.

Since then we have not hunted together, but I have taken two additional elk from the area, and so has he. However in his case, he pays to hunt the area, while I hunt it for free (it is BLM land and he pays a tresspass fee to the neighboring ranch, but spends most of his time on this BLM property). These days he thinks that he should be the only one of us that should hunt there and gets peived whenever I show up even though he hunts much further out the ridge and I don't disturb him or any animals he might have in his area.

Some people!

Dang you Overton, leave my honey's hole out of this thread.

Seriously though, if they are true friends they keep their mouths shut.

Some of these stories actually make me feel bad for the guy that goes back. I mean you spout of to your taxidermist and then get mad at him for being there the next year? Maybe he scouted the area after you spouted off to him?

Well I have had good luck with the honey holes I have found, showed a guy a good spot and he only go's there with me. I was alittle concerned because there are a few big bucks that run in the area and I knew he would see them ( we were after elk). so I have only good stories and good friends depending on how you look at it.

What you should do is apologize to him and tell him he is right that there are no deer in the area.

THEBUCKSTOPSHERE,OK first off let me start out by saying I didn't say ?my friend spouted off?. Now maybe I didn't explain myself enough! Also I don't know the taxi side of the story, just a good friends side who won't tell anyone his hunting spots. Spouting off, come on now, I finally for the first time in my life understand why people on-line get mad at other people before they know all the details without asking. OK, OK now let me take a breath. Now I have no idea what type of paperwork you fill out when submitting a buck for B&C or Id. records also.I do know my buddy told me on the paperwork there is a spot to put down the area or the drainage. I remember him saying he put down the drainage and he felt like he shouldn't have done it, even though it was voluntary.I do know it was something that gave the spot away to the guy which still does not make it right to go into a guys hunting spot, who has brought you a lot of work. Alright first off (sorry I just took a breath again) what would you do if you had a nice honey hole and the next year YOUR taxi was there. Maybe you wouldn't be so upset but how can you judge someone else, when you have not walked in his shoes?????????????????
The way I'm looking at this is some stupid remark FINALLY hit home for me and now I realize why some of the good people who used to frequently write on this site are now gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for being over dramatic I guess it's been a long day!!!!!!
