Looks like I'll be spending archery season in the Manti unit. Anyone else on here draw a Manti tag? I'm planning on spending as much time up there this summer as I can as well. I started scouting and spending time in the unit last year hoping that I'd draw sometime in the next few years. Here's to hoping I can find a monster.

Good luck to all that drew. Scout hard!!!

Congrats and good luck. I haven't spent much time down there for a few years so my info is out dated. I would hunt above spring city if I had the tag.

My dad drew early rifle tag as a non-res for Manti. Took 15 yrs. to draw. Can't wait. Hope it's a good hunt.

My brother and I have also drawn the Manti Archery tag. We are out of state so scouting will not be an option. I am hoping to find which part of the unit would be best to focus our 2 weeks of hunting. From the research I have done so far it seems like the southwestern/south central areas are good areas to concentrate. Any help is greatly appreciated. Again I'm am not looking for you honey hole, just a direction to get started. Any input?

I would focus on the last 2 weeks of the hunt. This gives the elk more time to start being more vocal and the hunting is historically better.

If you get in a pinch and want to contact a outfitter to help, look at high top outfitters.com and look at the Manti bull they killed recently, it's a big bull 390 class. I know the guys at high top and they are a good bunch of guys, realistic and honest..

I go camping on the Manti often during the summers and see alot of elk. The quality is there but you have to do your homework or get lucky. Just don't be too high on your expectations, have fun and you will have great memories...

Hope this helps a little,

Later

mstar, Congrats to you and your brother on getting the tag as well, I'll be doing a lot of scouting and putting up trailcams. I had a cow tag on the north manti last year and learned quite a bit about the area and there are elk everywhere you would expect them to be. PM me and keep in touch and I should be able to share some info and pictures with you. What state are you coming from?

LAST EDITED ON May-18-13 AT 08:44PM (MST)[p]Congratulations to all. mstar, given you are not local, here is some unsolicited advice. Be aware that spike/cow hunters share your turf until the last 6 days. The weather is usually hot and tree standing a wallow, ups the odds. Bugling bulls are fun, but tough to pull in unless you are experienced. I would also shoot any mature 6 point, unless you like the taste of tag soup.
I helped my son in an adjacent unit and we had a great time, but it was a much tougher hunt than I anticipated.
Best of luck to all!
