O.K. Here goes.
I found this buck's track last weekend and figured if we get any snow before the season is over I'm gonna go track him down and see what he looks like. So I get up this morning and the weather report says good chance for snow so off I go. I get up to the jumping off place about 8:00 am and head out. Perfect weather, light snow a little breeze in my face and I pop up over the ridge in some thick timber to where I found this guys track and lo and behold about 70 yards in front of me there's a nice big deer feeding with his head down in the bushes. I can see the back tines and they are crab clawed and I said to myself "nope-too small". Just as I start to drop the rifle down this guy steps right behind the other buck and I see his horns sticking way up higher than the other one. THATS HIM!! No shot. It probably only took a second but felt like forever and he raised his head up over the top of the other buck and winded me and I touched off and drilled him right thru the eyes. ETHICS POLICE CAN SHUT UP BEFORE I EVEN FINISH MY STORY!!
The other buck is still feeding unconcerned and finally he sees ole buddy Fred flopping around and he blows right towards me and I got a damn good view of him then! He about ran right over the top of me. Well after the dusts settles I walk over to check him out and I just started giggling to myself "HMMM, thats not a behind the ear shot"Come to find out there was four other deer there too but this guy was the biggest. His outside spread is 28in and he's a 5 x 4.In all the excitment I didn't measure to see how tall. Going in with the horses to pack him out tommorrow morning. Thank you Lord -- another great hunt in Wonderful Wyoming.

Nice job Longun! Looks like you and the wife will have plenty of meat for the winter now. Not to mention a VERY nice rack to sit and admire. Good to see you having some success my friend. You deserve it!

And hitting him there you didn't even waste any of that tasty meat! :)

i commend your shooting ability. there are so many places that you can put a bullet in a deer that will cleanly and ethically killa deer. when talking with my grandpa and by buddies grandpa, they told us stories of dropping all these monster bucks with shots to the head. head shots are perfectly fine. my buddy had a buck at 20 yards that was feeding right toward us. he never showed us a broadside shot so my buddy stuck and arrow right through his thinker. your ability goes hand-in-hand with ethics. if you are comfortable and able, then all the power to ya. great story!

Congrats on your success and thanks for sharing your story with us. Nice rack on that bad boy too! Looks like your rifle still has what it takes to get the job done.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Got him packed out and had to take it a little easy this year since we are breaking in another new packhorse, After the blood in the nose and some fartin and snortin everything went fine. Sorry BC I didn't take the camera wanted to travel pretty light.Did measure the height of his horns and they are 22 inches tall. His ears measured right at 23 inches. After weighing the 4 quarters the total was 174 lbs. And you know what Rackmaster??? not one ounce of blood shot meat. Believe me if I wasn't confident with the head shot I wouldn't of taken it. It ain't the first headshot Iv'e done and probably won't be the last. Uncle Sam fined tuned me a long time ago and that buck never felt a thing went the lights went out.

Kilo and Eelgrass showed up for their antelope hunt and I took Kilo out for a little expedition Sunday afternoon. He called me last night and they both tagged out on their goats.

Nvrenough did you get a tag this year anywhere??
