Well we finally got some weather and man what a difference! I know he's not a giant but for this zone in Ca on a public land wilderness backpack hunt....he's a hell of a trophy for me. What do you guys think he scores? Is he a wall hanger? I have a better one on the wall already but he's a pure muley outa Co. and this is a Ca hybrid. All my hunting buddies thought I snuck off outa state and shot him..... No one believed he came from where he did!!!!

Hardway,
He would look beautiful on the wall. Backpack wilderness hunts are awesome. Congratulations on a good looking buck.

I only hope to bag a deer like that this year. Congrats.

Congrats on a great buck. I don't think it matters what he scores if you ask me. If you are proud of him and want to remember/re-live the experience by having him on the wall, then he is definitely a wall hanger. He would go on my wall, that's for sure. Beautiful deer.
Congrats again, nice work.

In our hunting group we have a rule. If it is not worth mounting, it is not worth shooting. that buck is definitely worth mounting. Great Buck

Thanks for the comments guy's. Thats all the assurance I needed. He's heading to my taxidermist this weekend. I've hunted this unit for 13 years(it's my home town zone), my dad and friends dad's have hunted it for 30-40+ years and everyone says the same thing....not too many of them around. I was kind of second guessing myself with all the giant deer being taken these days but screw it! I have hiked my A$$ off for the last 13 years and I've only dreamed of seeing a buck like this. Every year same old thing...holding out till the last weekend and taking home a meat buck. Not that that's a bad thing, I have some great memories and would'nt trade it for the world. But the best part is how proud my grandfather and dad are. I just hope some day I'll be able to pass on this gift to my children. For what it's worth...I know hunting is just a hobby to some guy's but for myself and my family it's our way of life and our HERITAGE, I know most MM members feel the same way. Hope you all have great hunts this fall and thanks for keeping our heritage alive.....Ryan

LAST EDITED ON Sep-26-07 AT 06:33PM (MST)[p]That's a great buck Ryan, I would put him on the wall too. It don't get any better then getting a nice one close to home even if you had to hike your ass off to get into where he lives.

He's a great buck. Congrats!!! I would mount him. I am with ya on passing on, and keeping the hunting heritage alive. I am taking my son out for his first hunt this year. I don't know who is more excited him or me. Anyways great buck!!!!
