12A WEST HUNT EARLY

THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR PUTTING IN FOR UNT 12A AND I DREW AN EARLY TAG THAT STARTS ON THE 26TH OF THIS MONTH. I REALLY DONT KNOW WHERE TO GO OR WHERE TO START. SO IF I CAN ASK FOR A LITTLE BIT OF HELP WOULD BE NICE. IM NOT LOOKING FOR A WORLD RECORD BUT IO AM LOOKING FOR A NICE BUCK.

You might want to start by trying to contact Todd Buck, the game manager for that unit. He's very tough to reach this time of year, though, as he's out on the unit for days at a time and without phone contact.

Kind of late in the game but get yourself a forest service map, look up info on the Warm fire that burned a couple years back and plan on hunting in and around that area. Duwane Adams has a DVD on the Kaibab www.arizonabiggamehunting.com and he has map services for the unit. I am pretty sure He is already booked for the early hunts but you might call him. 520-385-4995. He is guiding some unit 1 early elk rifle hunts right now but may be home this weekend..........if you want to totally do this hunt DIY then start with the maps, call AZGFD and get Todd's phone number, maybe call the people at Jacob lake lodge, call Ryan at Muley Crazy and get as much info from as many people as you can. You need to scout in the next couple of weeks to at least get a lay of the land, the area is very very big country............. Thanks, Allen Taylor......
