My dad drew this hunt, hes 66 with 10 points. He has never killed a great bull. I believe his best is a rag horn. He is pretty excited. It has been a while since I have been in the area for elk. We used to hunt around strawberry a lot before it was a draw. I think my Dad would be real happy, estatic with a 320 type bull. I'm very familiar with most of the unit, just haven't chased elk in a while in the unit. Looking for a little direction. When we used to hunt up by strawberry the bulls would move from the summer areas to where they were rutting. I'm sure they are still doing that. Thanks for any help.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-17-13 AT 02:37PM (MST)[p]Just to let you know 90% of the hunters on that unit would be tickled with a 320 bull. I have the archery tag so I will be looking for a big one as well. When my wife had the tag 2 years ago there were plenty of opportunity for 250-300 inch bulls but now many on 300+ bulls. If you know the area around strawberry then I would stick there. If mobility is an issue I would just give a quick check of the north side of 40 in the trout, co-op and current creek area as the terrain is much more tame. Good luck I hope you guys can find a good. one.

Thanks,

Yeah that's part of what I didn't know. I figured there were a few more around that were 300 plus. We'll start taking some rides up to see what we can find.

I got lucky with this tag last year with 2 or 3 points and hunted with Shayne Ford and shot a 335 class bull on public land. This was my first elk hunt and was stoked! That being said they had a fair amount of bigger ones in camp but were shot on private in that area.Sounded like the antler growth last year surprised a few people and hopefully it will be the same this year. You guys are in for a great time.
