Never posted to the site but decided to ask some experts or locals for some advice.
We are planning on packing in on horses to get away from road hunters.
We just want to see some bulls not really a trophy hunter but would love to kill a nice bull.
1st time hunting Wyoming but I am fairly familiar with both areas. I am wondering if we need to go in a different direction or give it a shot in these units.
ANY ADVICE would be awesome! I know no ones gives secret spots away but maybe someone would be willing to PM me and talk WYOMING ELK.
The country it's self will make the hunt regardless of whether we kill or not.
Thanks upfront!

Remember that NR have a hire a GUIDE TO HUNT IN WILDERNESS or have a close relative that is a Resident.

Those two units are fine choices. If you are already familiar with them then don't change. Plenty of elk to work with in both. You also have plenty of area outside of wilderness to work with. If you are packing in then you will definetly get away from the road hunters but plan on having company from the other horse hunters that are getting away from the road hunters. There are no shortage of people with horses in Wyoming. Follow the same general rules, find a canyon without a road or horse trail running through it and you will most likely find elk. Look high, near treeline, regardless of the season. Glass in the morning, if you cant catch them at that time then watch what timber pocket they go to after the sun comes up and intercept them in the evening or the next morning. The fall back is to still hunt the timber but this is many times a one shot deal so don't screw it up. If you put the effort into it you will find elk, I promise you that. You will also see other hunters. Give it a couple of days and you will largely have the mountains to yourself.

Have a great hunt and I hope to see pics of a stinky old bull this fall.
