Buck & Bull combo ?

Well, 2000 guys or gals have had a few days now with their UT combo tags - anyone tag out on both yet? I'm interested to see some of the results on these tags this year, given they are a new option and we've had great weather for hunting both!

My dad and brother each had the combo, hunting an area with both and did not shoot anything, saw few small bucks and no elk to shoot.

I did hear of some guys filling their deer tags, but not in the "Northern" unit. They shot them in the NE unit. I guess I should not blame the "hunt" for the mistake made by these guys, but anytime you create these special hunts, it opens a can of worms. 2 less bucks for the legal guys to have a shot at.

Hell I havent got either. Havent seen an elk since mid september and only one buck that is worth shooting and he is in a spot that is just about impossible to get to with out blowing him out.

I am looking for a decent deer, damn I wish the hunting gods would start shinning on me instead of pissin on me.

I have that tag, still looking....._____________________________________________________

My neighbor just returned home with a spike bull and a 2 pt buck .This is the first elk and deer he has ever harvested. All I seen was a sea of orange and a few small bucks.

Both of my brothers shot their bucks, 1 - 4 point and 1 - 5 point. Dad is still trying to find the right one to fill his tag, they have seen plenty of bucks, but have only seen one bull! It was a 5x5, it crossed the road in front of them as they were heading to there afternoon spot. They had no time to react, it was gone before they knew it, they trailed it for awhile, it never slowed down!! It's proably some where in Wyoming now!!!
I should have got a non-resy tag and joined them!!

Here's part one of the combo from my hunt on national forest. Funny how hunting works sometimes. I was targeting muleys and all I could find was elk. Bull is a mainframe 5x5 with a 6 inch devil point making him a 6x5.

i was hunting east canyon with just an elk tag. there was a lot of shooting going on, lots of deer seen, but not even one elk track in the snow.

where's a guy got to go to find the bulls for the general any bull?

Hunt was you hunting the resort? I am a member there and pist they wouldnt let us hunt the resort for deer. Did you see any good bucks?

muzz, i was hunting the trail up along Bald Mountain about Dell Lake. I didn't see any good ones. Best was a small 3pt

My dad has this tag and I am a little concerned with what I am seeing.Let me just say there is alot of pressure on the North slope ,Soapstone area and East Canyon and for the most part alot of small bucks hitting the dirt. How is this going to impact the deer and elk for the next few years.I have seen more hunters log jammed in these areas because of the limited public ground on this hunt.

There were alot of people up there and alot of shooting. But while i sat below the peak of Bald Mountain, i watched some young bucks sneaking around hunters and they were never spotted. Watched a spike 500 yards from me sneak away from a guy in the aspens just above Harkers Canyon. The guy was oblivious to him being there by his actions. Those deer got educated pretty quick, but with that many hunters, some probably got pushed right into someone else.

From what i heard shot wise, most of the people up there on Sunday couldn't shoot well. I had 2 guys 400 yards below me take 8 shots to kill one deer.

Wait a minute there not supposed to be hunting deer on the resort. Only the state land. Were they shooting deer on the resort? I am not familiar with the areas you are telling me about i have been it for two years and only been up in the hills once.

muzz the area i'm speaking of is the canyons just above Dell Lake i think is what it's called. It's national forest and county land

Its mountain Dell reservoir, just on the North side of I-15 in Parleys Canyon. If you want any Bulls in that area be prepared to hike in 3-5 miles, and break your back packing it out ;-)

Tony,

I hiked 4 miles up the trail. I hunted in the fresh snow from Saturday night. I don't think the elk are there in those canyons just yet. all the hunters moving through there and not even a track was seen by me anywhere.

Muzz,
Yes you can hunt the resort property but you have to be a member and you have to draw a resort tag. Pay a fee and possibly do some work???? Not positive about the work, I haven't hunted up there for many many years. Pretty popular thus the resort drawing, check their website.

On second thought, there is no Elk in there, period.____________________________________________________

There were elk in there during the archery hunt. Once the shooting begins, they are hard to find until the extended archery and SNOW.....I shot a spike bull during the archery hunt.....

the only way you can hunt the resort is if you have a elk tag from them. They will not let you hunt deer in there with the combo tag. I am a member and know the security. I checked and they told me they would give the deer hunters a trespass permit to hunt the state land only!!! You could not hunt the resort because the elk hunters didnt want people in there chasing deer while they were trying to hunt elk. wawawawa more people to move things and a better chance at getting or seeing an elk in my opinion. Piss pore choice by the board up there.

Filled the Deer tag today. No Elk yet though.....

My son and I filled our deer tags but there wernt many deer and we only seen 2 other deer taken and only 1 elk. We hunted the North slope... not much shooting.

You score in East Canyon? I want to see the elk you take out of there.

i didn't get out there until Sunday for elk. Think all the action saturday pushed them out. there were more hunters in every canyon all the way up to Bald Mountain, than i would expect elk to be able to get around.
