Ten thousand bucks for the chance at a set of antlers. Way out of my price and sensibilties range!

Its fair chase, or its foul!

What is the world coming to? I hate all of these conservation permits that are for sale to the highest bidder.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-11-07 AT 12:28PM (MST)[p]Thats a land owner tag.. not a conservation tag.. It also said "Guide optional" in the desciption. And for the record.. no way would I ever pay that much for a pauns tag :(

You can uy a Vernon landowner tag for $3,500 - $4,000.....and probably kill a better buck!

((This is a special permit issued by Sportsmen For Habitat))

I'm confused!!! this is right out of the e-bay ad

DVC, it also says "You are bidding on a Landowners Limited Entry Trophy Mule Deer Hunt Permit for the Paunsaugunt Unit, Utah."

Im lost as well... who knows.

The Vernon does NOT have better/bigger bucks than the pauns, and if this landowner tag gives you access onto the Heaton ranch, there is nowhere on the Vernon that compares, in any way or stretch of imagination. The Vernon is getting better, but is not on the same level as the pauns. Just as the pauns isn't on the same level as the Henries. Vernon is comparable to the books, and fair step DOWN from the pauns.

now we got someone who knows what he is talking about but i wouldn't even compare the vernon to the books either

I'd take my chances on Vernon for $6,000 less. I agree, there are MORE deer on the Pauns and better OVERALL quality, But for the price of a Vernon tag, I could kill a buck I wouldn't feel guilty about. But then again, I am much more familiar with Vernon than I am the Paunsagunt. (Plus, I dont have $4,000, let alone $10,000 to spend on a deer tag anyway!)
I agree, if you could hunt the Heaton Ranch that might be an entirely different ball game, but I wouldn't bet my $10,000 on it.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-11-07 AT 04:08PM (MST)[p]I think it also can come down to how familiar you are with an area. Like Pro said, Vernon isn't on the same level as the Pauns, but I could probably go out on Vernon and kill a better buck than what I would kill on the Pauns because of my insufficient knowledge of the pauns.
An example is; I know a guy who had a pile of deer points and had been putting in for the Henries. He was more familiar with a unit that was near his home and knew of some good bucks and so he took his chances and put in for the muzzleloader tag on this unit. He drew the tag this year, and ended up killing a 215" buck. If anyone tried to compare this particular unit with the Henries, he would get butchered.
For me personally, I would rather stick to the areas I am somewhat familiar with, instead of getting on this forum at the last minute and asking where is the Paunsagunt and where are all the big bucks located?...after drawing a tag.

I heard that the beaver elk hunter he took this year on that units landowner tag didn't fill this year, maybe if he gets the money he's looking for with this tag he'll kick some cash to the hunter.

You are right about one thing finally!! Vernon doesnt compare to the books at all cause its BETTER. Do you think by driving up the same canyon as half the wasatch front you have seen every buck on the unit? Try living in the unit and spending weeks out of every month looking at bucks and then make your decision. But its o.k. if you have no clue. That way people who aren't glued to a truck seat can keep killing 200 inch deer year after year. Other than Heaton ranch, the Pauns is a long way from it's best days. I would go Henrys easy first and put Vernon up against anything else out there in Utahard land. Yippee Ki Yay!

And worth every penny!

Manny, your initial post says "mossback none the less" what do you mean by that? Just curious what YOUR beef is with them?

Brandon,

no beef, he just shows up everywhere, and i should've guessed ahead of time, believe me if I had the cha-ching he'd be the first guy i'd call...thats all....

No worries, I was just curious. I doubt I will ever have that kind of money :( Buts its all good, I can live through friends "tags" because im sure I will never draw one :(

The tag is not being sold by Mossback. The gentelman pictured in the add is selling the permit. He purchased the tag and can not come out this year due to personal reasons. He has hunted with Mossback the past 2 years. It is a transferable tag and he is entitled to sell it for what ever he can get from it.

"It is a transferable tag and he is entitled to sell it for what ever he can get from it".

Blah-Blah, sensitive or what!

Not a bit sensitive about deer permits. A little sensitive about you comunist pricks who would like to do away with free enterprise. I'm sure you don't have that attitude when your trying to sell your pickup truck. If you have a beef with the permits take it up with the DWR. After all I believe they are the ones responsible for tag sales, permit type's and number of permits issued. Seems to me your a little sensitive about the issue.

Middlehoof, there where two MB hunters that didn't tag out on the Beaver. One hurt his back before the hunt.He came out, tried to hunt and could not so he left after one day. The other gentelman would settle for nothing less than a 380 bull. When you will settle for no less than a number like that there is a good chance you will go home empty. Yes people make mistakes, hind sight is 20/20, coulda, woulda, shoulda. Chit happens and he didn't get a bull killed. Its hunting, remember.

"A little sensitive about you comunist pricks"

Hah, didn't know one could talk like that here on MM.com where's a mod when you need one 'eh?

you cant help but kill a big buck on the Heatons ranch. They herd the deer in to the corner of the fence for you and they let you pick the one you want to shoot.

Yeah, I heard those 10 foot fences do wonders!:)

All I ever see from u guys are 400 bulls. What couldn't buy a elk in time from a farm and get it up on the mountian and tie it up?????
