Where the elk are huge and nobody else can go.

I'm not one for telling my grandson how big of turd I had to pinch off from having to eat so much meat. I want to give him the antlers that hang from my wall and tell him the unforgettable experience that came with each and every one.

I had a dream, a dream of 400"+ monster bull elk running free in front of me with only my rifle between them and me. This fairy tale land is real, but alas I can only look and cannot touch. For every hunting season that comes and goes the geysers and hot springs ever flow. This sacred place haunts my thoughts and teases my senses as I explore its beauty and ponder the temptation of giant bulls in all their Autumn glory.

Yellowstone Park.

Estes park has a "couple" of nice bulls.

It seems to me that the Apaches have cornered the market on the best elk hunting for giant bulls, but how can you go wrong with a tag in...

Arizona, units 9, 10, 23 and some others.

Utah, Dutton, Pahvant, San Juan, Boulder and quite a few others.

Nevada, 111-113, 072, 223-231-241-242(Where I have a tag this year, Yippee!) and some others.

New Mexico, unit 15, 16A, 16B, 16D and some others. Having a Valles Caldera tag would be a dream hunt.

Hoghunter asked about the 'BEST' elk hunt. Having a tag in any of the above places, during their best season, would be better than 99% of all elk hunters in America will ever get to enjoy in their lifetime. They are all 'The Best'.

And Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and the others western states all have some primo elk units, just not as primo or as many.

I think the ultimate elk season, if I ever hit the lotto, would be to purchase a tag in as many of those Apache reservations as possible and go elk hunting for about 6-8 weeks, non-stop.
