Guys, I'm looking for any information on Archery hunting for Elk in the Greys River area of Wyoming. We have hunted near the Forest Park Campground for Mule Deer about 6 times over the past 15 years but we have never hunted for Elk. We always see a few Elk but we generally are hunting the tops of the mtns and don't see many Elk. We are planning to go to the same area but I know the greys river road is about 60 miles long and are we hunting in the right area generally or should we be concentrating on another area? We have always just hunted the Wyoming Range, would the Salt River Range be better? Just looking for general information. I understand how touchy everyone on here is about releasing information on the internet so please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Thanks, in advance for any info.

300wtby: I hunt across the valley from you in Idaho. I just got back last night 9/7. The elk in my area are all laying right now since that big storm on Memorial Day. No fresh tracks anywhere. The weather here in my area was HOT mid 80s day and low of 56-60 at night. Bulls have not started to round up cows and very little activity period. I don't think hunting will get better until we get some cold nights to get those bulls into motion...watch the weather and hunt as late into the season as possible this year. You will have a much better chance to see some game. Sorry I have no actual information on your post.

Good Luck.

Thanks, for the replies.

We are going to be hunting from 9/21 until 9/29. I hope we hit it just right for our first time hunting elk with the bow. Can hardly wait to experience it.

Take Care,

I'll be in that neck of the ID woods soon. The bulls have to be getting hot soon. Any action this week out that way?

Was in between big baldly and caribou mountain all day sunday, seen alot of rubs, herd a few squeaks at daylight, and seen a few big bulls with cows but they weren't talking and none came in to my calls. Pretty quiet still. Give it another week, and some cooler weather.
