OK so according to NDOW statistics for the last 2 years im looking at a success rate of around 50% for my late session 061/071 bull elk hunt. Even worse it appears the quality of elk is in the smaller range. Im looking at a 50% rate for a 30inch to 43 inch bull:( and even lower for a 44inch+. So my question as a new guy to elk hunting is how should I hunt the big bulls? Up high 9000ft? Down low in the drainage 5000ft? Are calls in the late season recommended? Should I be in the thick stuff? I have never been to this unit and have no clue where to go in this unit so I put the blind fold on and picked the drainage?s to the west of Johnson gulch(071). Am I going to run into a lot of hunters? From my map book it doesn't look possible to get away from any roads and I hate hunting high tag areas. I usually prefer no roads and high back country! Where can I find it?Any tips out there that might get me on a bull?
