Today was the second day of our hunt (resident-Colorado) and my 14 year old son shot his first buck! He was about 40-50 yards away and made a great shot! The deer didn't go far, and then it dropped. It was perfect!!! My son still has 3 more tags to fill (bull, cow, & doe) and he can't wait to find some more!

congradulations to you and your son. It's nice to see some of those other success stories, where size is not the only thing that matters. Around here 90% of the hunters would throw their back out just to have the opportunity to drag a deer out like that.

That has got to be the best feeling in the world. Looks like he just won the lottery, doesn't it? The nice thing about his hunt is that he didn't shoot the biggest buck on the mountain so next year when he shoots something bigger, he'll have another huge smile! Congratulations to the both of you.

Brings back memorys of my first Buck!! WOW how cool is that.... Been hooked on Hunting everyday after that one.. Looks like your Boy will be Hooked also.... Better get a 401K going for him as he will spend all his free time and money on hunting from now on LOL

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your comments!!

Here's the story behind his hunt so far.......

The first day (Saturday) we passed on the bucks we seen, he had big buck images going through his head for his first buck, so I let him make the call to pass or shoot, well at about 8:30am Saturday we came across a herd of about 20 elk, 1 6x6, 1 5x5, and 3 other smaller branch antlered bulls. They were still bugling pretty hard, it was awesome!! We made the stock and got to with in 300yds of the main herd, and then ran right into a spike that busted us and he ran right back up to the herd and pushed them over the mountain, we had to give up, there is noway we could have gotten a bull off that mountain if we did go after them. It was a tough call, but we both agreed!!
So we countinued hunting and passed a few more deer, then came home to get an early start in the morning with fresh snow.
Sunday morning came, and the dreams of a huge buck became just shooting a buck for his first big game animal, so we went looking for his buck!! The first deer we came across was this 2 point, he had about a 40yd shot, I stopped the buck with a cow call and he hammered him!! 1 shot, it was a little far back, it took 2 hops and was done. He told me right after the shot that he knew he jerked the trigger!! I told him " trust me, I totaly understand!! (I mean come on it was his first time shooting at a big game animal) I was suprised he even thought about his shot!!
He was so happy, and very proud!! And I'll be totaly honest here, my eyes watered with the pride I took in watching my son with his first deer!!! I am extremely proud of him!!!
This hunt has totaly been his decision, all the way down to the buck he shot!!
He still has a doe tag, a cow tag, and a bull tag. He won't shoot a doe or a cow unless they don't have fawns or calves, no matter what I tell him!!! It's his call, and I'm proud of him for sticking with his decisions!!!

Again thanks for letting me share his buck!! And thanks for all the comments!!!

It's a trophy as far as we are concerned, that's for sure!!!

Here is my sons' first deer as well. Sorry if I jumped in on your post, but the title was going to be the same. Great job for your boy. Nothing like being there for the first big game experience.

The vast majority of people don't realize that some of us expend tremendous amounts of energy to merely appear normal.

Good job. I hope he gets some more shooting this year on his other tags. If he does, make sure and post some more pics.

Congrat's to you DAD!! You've started your son on a path of memories he'll never forget, nor will you. Thanks for sharing with us.
