Wasatch archery kill, or no kill?

So I had two close friends with Wasatch archery tags this year. They both put in a tremendous effort. A couple passed bulls, a missed shot, Fog, rain, strange weather, and a sheep herder pushing through while we sat a wallow. I would like to know how many guys tagged out, and how many kept their tags? No shame boys, it was a tough hunt.

Good luck to the rifle and muzzy guys.

I was also curious how many points you had this year?

I would have to agree that it was a very tough hunt! My wife and I hunted for two weeks straight through thick and thin. The weather never let up but we ended with this nice bull.

Nice bulls guys/gals... Way to get it done... Hoyt, that bull has some MASS!!!!

Those are some gorgeous bulls. Well done all of you! Those were some adverse conditions this year, to be sure.

Me and my brother-in-law both had tags. We hunted 20 + days, he tagged out 2nd to last day with a nice 341" 6x6. I unfortunately I did not make it happen, very tough, wet hunt!!

Jdizzle-

Sorry about not getting a bull but it is the experience that really matters. It sounds like you hunted hard and had a blast. Let's see some photos of your brother's bull.

Hawkeye

Browning A-Bolt 300 Win Mag
Bowtech Destroyer
Winchester Apex .50 Cal

Bagging a Wasatch bull during the archery hunt has never been a slam dunk. The last three years success is:
2012 32%
2011 28%
2010 34%

That means, while there have been some great bulls taken this year, two thirds of all hunters go home empty.

It's all about the experience.

Hey littlebig!

My percentages are Odds/ratings from MM!:D

Best Watch Out!
My Arm is starting to Hurt!
I'm about to Itch it!

It was a very fun hunt and we made a lot of good memories!

I will let him post more pics and the story. It's a great bull with awesome mass and character.

This is the elk I shot on the Wasatch. It was a very tough hunt. I put in about 3 long miles, about 800 ft elevation change, over 2 brutal days and by the time I packed this thing out I was done.

justr,
It would be interesting to know how many(what%)of UT LE Archery hunters actually passed shots on mature 6 pt bulls? It's a tough hunt at best, and the historic kill percentage suggests:

PICKY=TAG SOUP!

Best of luck next time.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-13 AT 04:02PM (MST)[p]Great question LBH I spent 8 days helping a friend who drew a conv archery tag. My guestimation is that out of all the 6 pts I saw 10 percent would score 300plus. My bud waited til the last night for a 320 bull. Congrats Rob. Ps I saw more bulls than cows and more small 6s than spikes FYI.

Congratulations to you and your bud Russ!
My experience with my son's hunt two years ago was similar to yours. Certainly nothing shabby about any 300+ bull with a bow IMHO. We were very happy with my son's 320 bull.
