mule deer rut

I was wondering if mule deer when the rut starts do they keep does together in small herds. It would be like elk in the rut. I've always seen they with one doe not 6 to 10 does at a time.

Its my experience grouping behavior is up to the does... the bucks just follow them around. I havent really seen a buck trying to "herd" does around. Mainly the does gather up and the bucks just happily follow along.

I'd be curious though if anyone has seen such behavior.

I was thinking of last year I shot a nice buck and he had 10 or 12 does with him. The rut had started and I never seen something like this before.

The does group up and the bucks tend to find them such as Dallan said. They travel from one to the next. Find a receptive doe and you will very likely see multiple bucks in the area. Biggest boy gets er done.
