I'm heading there on the 2nd too. I assume you guys are talking about the moving of deer down from Colorado? Does this just mean some monsters might not move down?

Eating the permit.....give me a break. There is always good bucks taken on the first hunt. There are great resident deer in 2 as well. The eating the permit thing will cost a lot more in 2008. A lot of others wanted that permit. This buck was taken on the first weekend last fall. 194 gross.

Unit 2 isn't so popular just because and only if Southern Colorado gets snow. This unit gets better if snow falls but it has tremendous deer any how.A guy I know in Santa Fe has drawn the rifle hunt there 3 times and his wife once. H killed a nice 4x4 the first time and hasn't gone back on his 2 other hunts. We took his wife one day on her hunt but she was cold , too slow , didn't want to walk very far from the truck! It kills me!

I wished the full amount of the deer tag had to be paid up front , just like elk, antelope and the rest of the big game here in NM. Once your application is drawn then your account is charged! Might keep non residents from putting in if not fully commited to the hunt . If there is a family emergency , then I'd understand , but to draw this tag and not come because the weather doesn't work according to the "right type deer hunting conditons", give me a freakin break! Yeah stay homme!

doo! doo! happens.
STEW OVER IT... My son was hit by an motorcycle on his way to school Friday and had an operation! Hes fine! I was 5 hours from the rocket run to Farmington for license and stamps ( snow or no snow). I am not stupid I been here long enough to know what this tag can offer.
I still have to Wensday but for now I want my son not to have 2 blackeyes that are full of blood and a nose full of bloody gauze! NO WORK AND NO HUNTING TODAY (and Sunday) And maybe Monday.

This should be the 2nd hunt first one is this week I think looks like it will be cooling down some by the 4th had hoped that maybe that little skif of snow they got a week ago was more substantial at higher elevations but I am in one way or another.Rack good luck with the kid I drew this same tag 4yrs ago my twins were born the night I was suppossed to leave 2 months early everybody was fine but one thing I know for sure is there will always be deer.Hope to kill out early cause the last day of the tag is their birthday.Hunted in ND a month ago got home and the twins were setting at the table eating lunch and my little man said hey dad that buck must have been pretty smart to duck your arrow ,and I said mom must have told you that I missed and he said yeah thats why I like rifle better they work better than bows .So I think they will understand if I am a day or so late.

Rackmaster, I apologise for coming across like jerk towards you. My intentions were for others , not for you. I believe family ALWAYS comes first and you are the one to decide what is important first. I have recieved a few calls from MM members asking questions , but a few guys have been really concerned about the snow.Everybody , EVERYBODY, I have tried to help and piont them in the right direction , yet a couple guys are still reluctant to come because of the weather.Like I said in my first post, if thier is a family emergency , then it's very understandable to miss a hunt, but to not travel here for that unit because the weather isn't right according to what persons think,,,,,thats what kills me , thats plain out stupid! The title of this thread will get some of those guys to look and read and see what I said is true......just plum crazy not to come...

Holy cow boys, the mans son was injured. To the heck with the hunt. I'm glad your priorities are straight Rack

Where the confusion is coming from is RMs post was poorly worded. He begins by saying that because the weather didn't come he is eating his tag. He then later says, oh and my son was hurt too.

If he said, it looks like I won't be able to make it to 2b because of a family emergency he would have only gotten support.

Now with all the info it is clear that he can't go because of missing time from work and a serious accident and he is just trying to temper his dissapointment by telling himself it might not have been that great anyway because of the weather.

Just got back and had a great time. They should really thin the does out... Both my brother and I got our deer. Weather probably was a factor as it hit 70 during the day. Regardless of the situation with RM, I wish they would charge the money as soon as one draws the tag. Keeps PITA folks and the like from doing it. Then if someone can't go, it is a donation to the state.

I would hate to see those roads with any kind of rain or snow!!!

Rack, I don't think anyone ment any disrespect or lack of concern for your son. I think some just didn't read down far enough in your tread. Tags are hard to get as you know and some wish they had the tags. My hunting partner bailed out on me and let his tag go to waste, not counting, now me having to travel 1200 miles one way by myself. But it all work out for me check out my post on Mule Deer under My First Muley.Hope your son is OK. Good Luck in the future.

I'm headed down tomorrow for another scouting trip. Probably run around the hills mid day as to not disrupt you guys that will be on this weekends hunt. From what I've heard people have been starting to see a whole lot more deer up there in the past week and also an increased amount of road kills.

As for RM having to eat a tag...well $hit happens and there will always be people that draw good tags that won't/can't go on the hunt. Who hasn't had to eat a tag for one reason or another?Theres two sides to it in my opinion. The people that applied and didn't draw - they'll be pissed because that is one more chance that they potentialy could have had that went to waste. Then there's the guys that drew the hunt - they should be happy cause that's one less guy to get in the way of their buck.

Wish all you lucky fellers out there good luck on your untit 2 hunts. I'm going crazy here at work, November 10th is taking too long to get here.
