Oh ya, go Ducks. Quack. quack.

Here's the story:
It was the 5th day of hunting and everything was wet, due to the biblical rains. If it weren't for the thought of rutting/stinky bulls I would have stayed in my sleeping bag that morning. We (two hunting buddies and I) get to our spot just as it's getting light, but due to the heavy rains we can't see or hear anything so we stay and end up falling asleep in the truck. About two hours pass and the rains lighten up so we hit the woods. We get discourage after chasing a couple of bulls that aren't in the mood, so decide to check out a new area. Like magic, a bull bugles and we are injected with excitement as we get to the new area. Guided by the sound of a hot bull leads us to an opening where we can see eight cows on the ridge in front of us. Tuck away in the thick stuff near his cows he gives away his position by letting out a thunderous bugle. He?s a big herd bull. My emotions are mixed as I calculate the challenge of getting to within bow range with all those eyes/noses/ears and the likelihood of pulling him away from his cows? Despite this we come up with a plan where I sneak in while my buddies stay behind and cow call and spot. The wind was my friend that day and stayed in my favor the entire stock. I felt alive while closing the distance? I was stealthy when the bull was silent but rushed when he bugled. Fortunately he was hot and screamed at every cow call. Now feeling the bugles more than hearing them I know I'm close. Crunch, smash, quiet? Quick, he's coming my way and fast. Shaking I look down at my bow and I have trouble knocking an arrow. Like a ghost he appears above me and my instinct kicks in? bow back, eye in peak site, and shooting window found. Mountain tan fills my shooting window and I touch my release sending the arrow on its way, but two feet high. The bull jumps and my heart sank thinking the gig is over, but no? to my surprise he starts taking out his frustration on an aspen tree. Acting fast I close the distance to 15 yards and send a ?dirt nap? arrow into both lungs. I'm in shock/disbelief while I try to figure out what just happened. Both buddies rush up the mountain and give me bro hungs and high fives. One of them finds the bloody arrow and two hours later with one heck of a tracking job (filled with many highs and lows/FYI I'm never using Toxic broad heads again) we find my bull in a small stand of tree at the bottom of the mountain. What a great hunt made possible by two good hunt'n Buds.

Wow what a nice bull, those are some of the darkest horns I have seen in awhile.
