Colorado leftover tag

I just got back tonight from Colorado in a leftover unit we had five guys with tags and four got bucks. I took the biggest in our group and this is my biggest buck yet. I really enjoyed sharing the hunt with family, especially my Dad. A couple of bucks had circled us when going through some junipers, one guy made another pass through the trees while I waited and ambushed this buck coming out. This all happened on the 8th day of a 9 day season.
Here's some pics, more details to follow tomorrow.

By the way,
I live in UT.
There are a lot of UTARDS that live here.
I have also seen quite a few WYOMORONS, NEVADUHNS, COLORADORKS, ID-IOTS and AIRHEADZONANS in my travels.

Nice buck, hunting with family plus your biggest buck to date. Those are the kind of hunts you remember all your life. Congratulations..

Feleno, you got it.
In 35 with 26 in the background of the lower pic.

The deer we got into were real low, when hunting up high we didn't see anything.

Although, right out of a parking lot in Avon I spotted a nice main frame 4 point about 24-26" with stickers off the right side that was on public land in unit 36. He was hard to get to because of a creek and railroad tracks. Spotted him with a spotting scope while killing time getting some new mud tires put on the truck.

The great weather allowed for some good time around the campfire and my wife had made a lot of the meals ahead of time and sent with us, so dinner didn't amount to much more than heating up the meals on quite a few nights.

The snow that dumped on Saturday night, Oct 20th, left about 14-16" up high and that was enough to get them moving down. Most of the roads were requiring chains, whether they had snow or not. The mud in this area will pack into even the best mud tires. I had my truck into places where the hunting wasn't even in my mind! I was just worried about getting out of there!

Then I was into some places where the mud was just plain old good fun, that is where you had sagebrush on both sides instead of a canyon waiting to swallow your truck. I had mud clods bigger than my fist getting thrown up by the tires onto the roof of my truck!
The quad was a different story, the mud would come up the size of a small brick and if it hit you in the head would just about knock you out! Then it would pack in behind my legs and I would have to stop to clean it out about every 3-4 miles. I saw a lot of elk taken up there also, which surprised me since I didn't see an elk on the hoof the entire trip.
Opening morning found me along with 13 hunters in the same sage brush bowl, had to change tactics and get away from people.
The biggest bucks I saw were in places that hundreds of people drive past each day. In one situation a school bus goes by there four times a day!
Colorado seems to get better every year for me!

A big Thanks goes out to "Hiker", Jeff McKinney gave me some great info for this hunt and really got me started in the right direction on this hunt!
