after shooting a old old cow last year that is so tough we have to cook her in the crock pot or resole our shoes with i was hopeing for a nice you spike or maybe a calf this year.
i had my chance in bowseason but all i hit was twigs.
rifle season rolled around but i could not aford to go back to my normal general license area as i had gone twice this year And bought a new cabover camper to make it easier then halling the 27' camper i bought the year before.
i'd given up on elk hunting for the year and was ready to move on to deer hunting.
well my son and his buddy invited me to go deer hunting with them so i was excited.
the area was general deer and elk while i hoped for a elk i was looking for deer mainly.
my son and i spotted three bucks but they saw us too.
we followed them trying to cut them off at the river crossing.
we waited there for Russ to walk the river driving deer to the crossing.
we saw does and a cow and calf that got out of site before i could get on them.
Russ made it to us and with other hunters shooting on the other ranches we decided to watch the crossing.
after 5 minutes Russ said "ELK!"
i raised the 300 mag and was about to shoot a cow when this stepped into the river.
i couldn't help myself

i learnned a life time leason, I'll never shoot a elk standing in a river again. no matter how big! de-boning a elk under water is more work then any rack is worth!

Nice job! That is one heck of a great bull.

Congrats!

HOOK 'EM!

Very good Bull, Now you have to know how those moose hunters did it.
