I was daydreaming today.....Where would you live if given the chance (residency) to hunt the best muleys in the world, what about the whole package? Muleys, Elk, Pronghorns, Goats , Sheep, Upland?????????? I was thinking????? Man I have no clue where to start? The wife and I have been thinking (like many californians) about gettin out here in the next couple years. Where would you go?

Wyoming late summer and fall and Hawaii the winter and early spring. Montana late spring and the Kenai early to mid summer. Just buy a large 5th wheel with popouts.

Idaho Falls , ID you have all that plus moose, whitetails bear. And yes everyones favorite wolves.... all within a half hour drive or hour drive of upper valley. Steelhead, two blue ribbon trout streams in backyard and a few more within tri-state area.

Not Arizona we have no water, the elk are tiny, the deer here taste like poo. Plus its hot as heck.

New Zealand, you can hunt anytime, you can shoot out of heli's and even spotlight them. No predators on the island!!! so somebody gotz to control the population. That why I go over there. Don't even have to worry about getting caught because theirs now laws.

Just think of it as a refuge for poachers

Sincerely

Just a Thought?

I'd stay in CA. Why,... look at all the diversity you have. Deserts, ocean front property, mountains, marshes, farmland, forests, you got it all. Even have a few shanky women....LOL. I think more westerners should move to CA.

I bet you do. And you'll be glad to know that many keep taking your advice. I might live to see 100 million people in Kali.

Utah, i mean you got the henry mountains for deer, pavahnt for elk, rush valley for antelope good bear and lion hunting sheep hunting on the san rafeal and escalante fair duck and goose hunting!

I think I could really enjoy living in BCBOYS neck of the woods....amazing realestate and wildlife up there.

ok all you calli haters out there , here is my story and from it I assume all of your are talking about southern cal., cuz that all most of you know about.
I grew up 10 miles north of shasta in way northern cal, and lived there up until 8 years ago when I moved to colorado. I loved cal. and would go back in a minute. why? because. I was deer hunting every year of my life, we always got at least 3 bucks a year in our family. we never had to worry about getting drawn for a tag,I have yet to get any good areas here in colo. you have actual seasons there, not 75 degrees at noon and 30 degrees by 5pm and snow. the weather is predictable unlike colorado. every where i have been in colorado reminds me of a place in the mountains back home. I come from a small town of maybe 5000 people. we would start boating in march and water ski up until october then hunt until dec. i think most people when they think of calif. think la and souther, like from sacramento down. they dont know what is actually way up north. and before you all ask why i moved here it is and it sucks. I met and married a girl in calif whos family lives here in colorado(denver area),mine still lives in shasta. she talked me into moving closer to her family. after 2 amazing little boys and 10 years of marriage we are now divorced for 2 years now. If I want to see my little guys I must stay here, so I do. The oldest is 12 next year and we cant wait to go hunting together it is something I have looked forward to my whole life. so there it is where and why Id live in cali. go ahead and start bashing me for it

Bigbucks243-

Although i live in Utah and love it (for the most part),
the areas you mentioned for hunting ARE outstanding. But to move here just for them is absurd.....you have to draw those tags first,(which will take more than two lifetimes).
You might as well live in Syberia:)

I also have thought about moving out of CA. There are many things to consider depending on your age, marital status, kids, employment, cost of housing and the list goes on.
Now that I am retired I would truly love to move to Idaho. The area around Salmon is fantastic, but homes are getting expensive. I have considered Pocatello because housing is very affordable there but it does get very cold during the winter.
Then I think about my ranch here in Calaveras county, D5. I have been able to kill a buck every year since I was 10 years old, if I wanted to, and I have killed many. The bear population is exploding here now and turkey hunting couldn't get any better.
Anyway, what I am tiring to say is it is a very hard decision to pick up and move. We can always hunt out-of-state and still keep what we have. If I lived in so cal or a big city, I would already be gone.

slamdunk well its alright if you dont draw because i guide so i get to see all the units anyway plus its fun to go scouting on the henrys and vernon just to see whats out their and we draw every year for general so its pretty good i would say.
